Yes.

If you don't want others unlocking your PC, you need to set a password.

Start - Settings - Accounts - Sign-in Options

Search for UNlock win 10 with the method you used to lock it.

There's no need to search - you just hit any key on the keyboard and the computer will unlock.

I do it to my work computer a dozen times a day.

What's the point of locking it, if it is so easy for anybody to unlock?

Huh

Hitting any key (well, certainly the space bar and 'enter') works on every Windows computer I've ever used, and that's quite literally dozens.

I think Herbie wants to lock his computer, and then be the only one who can unlock it.

For that, he needs to go to the "Require Sign-in" option, and set a password.

Then, when he hits the space bar on the keyboard the PC will wake up, but he'll be confronted with a screen like this:

Okay - thanks Greg.

I go away from home every few weeks for a week or so, and that's when my neighbours come in to feed the cats and chooks, etc. There's absolutely nothing on my PC I'm ashamed of, but even so, what's private should remain private.

How to undo the password access setting is now the second question. It would be annoying if thereafter I have to type-in an 8 figure password each time I sit down at the computer.

You need to access Accounts under settings while you are logged in as a Administrator and change the account settings.

I just sold an older notebook and I had to clean up the accounts and profile / remove all data etc ....

Just set 'Require sign-in' when you go away, and turn it off again when you get back home.

Simples!

I do regular rebuilds I just stick to default settings ..... I find windows a bit dull to be honest. Prefer Linux or the UBUNTU variant..... runs a lot faster and greater access to free software.

Given where the computing world is heading most internet banking logins are done on mobiles ...... PC/Laptops will be a thing of the past. I can see IOS and Android being the future, Windows mobile is a joke.

Why do you want to lock it anyway?

And then I once got locked out of my own computer because the computer repair guy forgot to tell me the password. I got a little emotional when I arrived home and discovered that .....

2 tom cats, one female cat, and 2 hens. Why I ever made this rod for my own back I'll never know. Bought the house and found a cat lived here. Then found an escaped chook in my backyard after neighbours had moved house. These pests became a habit, but for the most part we live separate lives except for meal times.

Nothing a frying pan and a dodgy Chinese restaurant could sort out.

I live near a national park we get all sorts of creatures that come around for a visit. We have a creek in our yard which seems to bring a collection of Water Dragons and frogs. I get Bandicoots coming through digging the yard up. Laureates and Cockatoos smashing my Gravilias ..... the Odd Brush Turkey the odd Blue Tongue ..... Brush Tail Possums playing on the roof ...... Bats at night ........ one day a Wallaby wondered down and got expired by a car. Came home one day to see about 5 ducks in the front yard. In Spring / Summer our garden gets flooded with butterflies.

One day we were entertaining with about 8 people on the back Balcony when Kookaburra landed on the table to join in. It hung around for about 20 minutes .... got a feed.

Pets ??? No don't need them.

The neighbours have an annoying barking little rodent dog ..... that might end up in a wheelie bin soon..... accidents do happen Smiley

Castration?  A high-pitched squeaky barking is not nearly as bad as a full-throated bass-baritone barking.

Herb lives with 6 choocks and a cat Smiley

Sounds a bit like Allambie Heights or Cromer  Smiley

BTW I know a fix for a barking dog.

Not either off those I am north of those Not much bush around Alambie but there is around Cromer .... the Monster in-law lives near there.

I have worked out how to do it legally and I have put them on informal notice and they seem to have complied ..... if not the Rat Sak is waiting in the garage..... I mean it will become formal and the council will be involved.

A guy up the road from me used a bow and arrow ..... way too much evidence if you ask me.

Castration?  A high-pitched squeaky barking is not nearly as bad as a full-throated bass-baritone barking.

Depends which end you cut off and what you use I would prefer a big machete just to make sure it stops barking. But again too much crime scene to clean up.

There are electronic devices that send off a soundless-to-human ears high-pitched noise that irritates dogs every time they bark. You attach it to something on your own property that overlooks where your neighbour's dog is barking.

Nup. I knew a guy who lived in a terrace and the people next door were old dears with a very anxious and yappy dog that yapped all night.

He went thru every avenue for them to keep it quiet at night short of legal action, which he didn't want to do because they were frail oldies.

His solution, a bit of diazepam crushed into a small ball of chicken mince tossed over the fence a couple of times a week.

Cromer / West Dee Why is a bit low brow and you can not see the water...... FYI while real estate is not cheap up here its not like the Eastern Suburbs.
You can buy  the monster in-laws house its near Cromer, its a knock down job big block of land but no view.

A better suburb is Collaroy Plateau

this is a sample of the views:

The wife's cousins own a property there worth around 5-7 million range .... amazing views.

The whole area looks good val for someone accustomed to East Subs prices but I'm going thru a thought experiment of moving to somewhere with 2 acres or so.  Smiley

Terrey Hills would be the best bet, very Horsey area with lots of tweed patches. Quick drive to the NSW Gun Club with great skeet shooting set up. Good little village set up with some great Restaurants ! It also has one of the best fruit markets in Sydney

Eastern Suburb prices are the highest in Sydney, most of the Northern Beaches is reasonably priced with some hot spots. If your really cashed up there are some very big Mansions at the Back of Mona Vale with acreage. Parramatta has similar prices to many NB areas....... often real estate prices have more to do with how close to transport or city centres ..... hate both so the northern beaches suits me down to a tee !

I find the Eastern Suburbs very aggressive and crowded, but obviously popular.
