Australians are the world's most efficient farmers

According to Aquascoot. Furthermore, Aquascoot contends all that is needed is to stand on one's own two feet to become an efficient farmer.

There are many who would beg to differ.

Even Singapore is twice as productive in agriculture as Australia.

The Netherlands is number two world exporter of food second to USA.

Slovenia is number one. Australia is number 14 with about twenty percent of the productivity of Slovenia. Slovenians must have five pairs of feet.

Australia should send back and demand a refund on its closet poms so it can bring Slovenians in.

Quote:
... One more reason to marvel: The Netherlands is a small, densely populated country, with more than 1,300 inhabitants per square mile. It’s bereft of almost every resource long thought to be necessary for large-scale agriculture. Yet it’s the globe’s number two exporter of food as measured by value, second only to the United States, which has 270 times its landmass. How on Earth have the Dutch done it?...

Does this take our variable and often drought prone climate into account?

Didn't you say you're moving to Slovenia,  Un4?

Singapore - the average backyard over there or flower pot in a tenement gives proportionately a far greater yield than vast swathes of Australian countryside.....

It's like discussing our 'carbon footprint' per capita and leaving out the realities of mass carbon footprints..... of course a fine politician like Julia doesn't have a carbon footprint.... she gets it all for free....

Where is the majority of Singapores agriculture carried out?

I bet just like the Chinese do, they buy agricultural lands & grow crops & animals in foreign countries yet consider that locally grown for their GDP figures.

Singapore is 177,000 acres (the size of an average grazing property in Aust) much of which is waterways & under heavy residential, business & industrial infrastructure.

A mere 3,620 acres are for farming.

Sweet F A compared to Australia.

The total area of one average Aussie farm.

Nice try at deflecting and diverting to distract attention away from your low productivity.

Stop blathering and get back out to the work face.

The heading?

"Agriculture value added per worker, constant USD, 2016"

Now that means either Australia's workers are really slack or something else.

How does one worker in Singapore add over USD100k in value to agriculture?

"Value added in agriculture measures the output of the agricultural sector (ISIC divisions 1-5) less the value of intermediate inputs."

1 packet of seeds in, 100,000 bok choy out?

Q.  Why don't snakes have balls?

A.  They can't dance!

The Netherlands heavily subsidises agriculture. I can safely say this without knowing anything about it or bothering to check facts.

Not sure why that counts as a measure of efficiency.

I would wonder how those Slovenians and American farmers would go on Australian soils with a marginal percentage of fertility that makes it a miracle to ponder we can grow anything upon.

We are in the initial stages of making a reversal in failing soil fertility through some innovations. Salt tolerant plants and plants that desalinate the soils are being planted in areas that are suitable or have been suitable for farming. This could be a twenty-year process, as some farmers have undone years of damage through the planting of this vegetation.

If farmers can plant crops in Australia and get good yields, I am sure that Australian farmers could match and outdo farmers of other countries on an even playing field. Farmers who do the hard yard in Australia, leave me feeling proud of their achievements.

This thread was started in response to a thread in another string where Aquascoot claimed Australian farmers were most efficient in the world.
