Give a man a drill-bit and he'll drill for a day, but teach a man to sharpen one...... Smiley

Some things are just anal.
Like two Tech Divers argueing over which is best - stainless steel clip or brass? Both give an equal quality of just doing the damn job!  Roll Eyes

I would never sharpen a 'Drill' bit. The 'economics' of time wasted just doesn't add up.

1. Buy high quality drill bits first of all.
2. Just buy another drill bit and stop being a tight-wad!  Roll Eyes
3. Sharpening of a drill bit, no matter how good you think you did it, never attains the original quality and thus leaves you with a less than workable drill bit that will let you down on those important moments.
4. Would you do 'retreads' on your tyres? Sure, it can be done - but FFS, go out and buy new ones!

Nonsense - I have saved many a job by
knowing how to sharpen a drill bit especially when
a new one was not immediately available.

Also - if you're drilling tough metal such as stainless steel
then knowing how to sharpen with a more narrow
face angle will allow you to drill a hole
that that even a new drill bit can't drill.
( unless it a special cobalt drill )

The smaller the drill bit the harder it is to sharpen correctly.
I can use a standard bench grinder to sharpen a drill bit.
I was shown the correct method over 30 years ago.
It takes considerable technique and dexterity but
it's possible to do a very good job.

True - use the right tool for the job if you possibly can.
Bunnings has an assortment of Cobalt drills -
they are no longer the preserve of specialist engineering trade shops
where you have to wait a month to get one.

After you shag a woman Bobby.
Do you 'sharpen' your drill bit with your hand?
So you can shag another woman?

I'm sure she doesn't like a drill bit with some wear and tear about it  Wink

Sorry - that question sounds a bit gay to me.
Talk of male sexual organs is always gay.
