Two Victorian workers killed in 48 hours   Sad

WorkSafe Victoria says two workers are dead and another has suffered serious injury in a string of workplace accidents over two days.

A teenage girl and a factory worker are dead and a tradie is suffering serious injury after a string of workplaces accidents in Victoria.   Sad

WorkSafe Victoria said a 17-year-old stablehand died after falling from a horse at a Tyaak property in central Victoria on Sunday.

A day later, a 29-year-old man was electrocuted near a live switchboard at a Dandenong factory in Melbourne's southeast.

Another man aged in his early 20s was hospitalised with serious head injuries on Tuesday morning after he fell about six metres from scaffolding at a Fitzroy North construction site.

He was winched to safety and taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

WorkSafe said the accidents represented a "horror" 48 hours and that businesses needed to ensure new employees or those returning from holidays understand the risks in their workplaces.

"Young workers often lack experience and can be reluctant to ask questions," WorkSafe's Adam Watson said.

"Employers need to ensure they receive the correct training and supervision and feel comfortable about speaking up if they are uncertain about any task they are given."

3000 people a year are treated at casualty units for falls from ladders AT HOME.

work is generally a very safe environment.

the workers of australia should fall to their knees and give thanks to the awesome employers of australia who have worked so hard to reduce accidents to such very very very low levels.

i was in dubai recently and saw the foreign workers who are employed by very very rich arabs.
they walk around 50 stories up , welding and fabricating with ZERO safety equipment.

the unions in australia must be so elated at our fine noble employers who would never dare do such wicked things

All the cases are non-related not sure what the fuss is. Its impossible to make horse riding safe getting on a big animal that can get spooked is both exciting and dangerous.
Not sure on the electrocution case that needs to be investigated for OHS practices. Often its required to work around live stuff just need to see more.

The scaffolding one looks like a no brainer ..... Harness ? After a certain height they should be mandatory !

Why?  Balconies on high rise buildings are open.  Scaffolding is safe provided people do not do stupid things.

Work had been demonstrably less safe under at least the last two Liberal governments. That is a fact.
