Grunting

Should it be stamped out, or should the fans just get over it?

It does not seem to upset opponents, so......no issue.

Its a deliberate attempt to put off the opponent, its not very sportsman like. the spectators were ribbing her as well and they were told by the umpire to shut up, what the!
And its bloody annoying to watch and listen to, one point off for each grunt would sort the problem out.

Ever had a tennis opponent let out a big sloppy curry fart?  Now that's distracting.

They would have to be very careful with that!

Monica Seles was the original 'grunter'.
Every man and his horse would 'moan' with every 'grunt' she pounded out.
"Back hand"
"Fore hand"
"back hand"
"fore hand"
"Juice!"

The national anthem of watching Monica Seles in action.
Only one person didn't like her 'grunting'.
He knifed her! Apparently it bothered him somewhat.

Haven't heard a female tennis player grunt for many years, ever since I stopped watching it.

Been thinking some more about this.  It ought be banned.  It can easily be used tactically.

You are playing a grunter, so you get used to the rhythm of it.  But......the grunter then changes it....or even does not grunt and that stuffs up what you have been made accustomed to.  You get monetarily 'put off' and that's all it takes.

Nah.  It's gotta go and quickly before kids learning the game start mimicking it for the sake of it.

I think the same joke about teenaged boys being in the toilet for a while, after watching Baywatch, also applies to watching women's tennis matches.

My daughter is a tennis player. A darn good one, too. She likes to grunt in her tournaments, due solely for the fact that it is her way of hitting the ball harder. When she plays against me, she goes half speed so that I can keep up. No grunting during her tennis games with me.
