what is Patriotism
Jan 16th, 2018 at 10:33am

patriotism
ˈpeɪtrɪətɪz(ə)m/Submit
noun
the quality of being patriotic; vigorous support for one's country.

IT might be the Australian Open, but the water on sale at the nation’s premier sporting event is decidedly unpatriotic.

Tennis fans attending day one of the tournament have taken to social media to express shock that the bottled water on sale is imported from China.

Rather than opt for an Australian brand, organisers are selling Ganten bottled water, which has been shipped from the Chinese city Shenzhen, A Current Affair reports.

Viewers commented on the Open’s use of product placement, with the Ganten logo visible on the side of the tennis umpires’ chairs.

In a statement, Tennis Australia said the Australian Open was a global event that had “a long history of partnering with international brands”. Grin Grin Grin

The statement pointed out that the Open also partnered with “iconic Australian brands such as Jacobs Creek, Coopers, Vegemite and Country Road”.

“Ganten water is a premium brand that is associated with other major tennis and sporting events, including Juventus FC,” the statement said.

“The Australian Open continues to expand its global reach and partnerships, which helps to grow the sport at all levels in Australia.”

how much water would be sold at this event???????

Buying bottled water, particularly shipped from overseas is environmental vandalism.

If your answer is 'yes', cods, you might want to contact someone at the US Open.

One of their official suppliers is Jacob's Creek.

Perhaps they should only be serving American wine, rather than sending profits off to some foreign country.

Personally I'm against most sponsorship that turns club jerseys into advertising posters or renaming grounds or and this is the biggy for me renaming the Melbourne Cup.

I'm also against Australian events being sponsored by overseas companies etc...

You?

Perhaps they should provide tap water, from Adelaide.

Cheers!

That doesn't bother me so much.

Are you against American events being sponsored by overseas companies?

The US Open is sponsored by Jacob's Creek - an Australian company.

You cant work that out for yourself?
Really?
If I was American I would be.  Surely they have their own companies etc that can sponsor theirs.
Being Australian I don't see the need to sponsor another country's events.  Plenty of Australian events need sponsorship.

As for the question...  it seems Patriotism and Nationalism are terms many confuse.

Here is one explanation.

"Patriotism" is an attachment to or a love for a particular country. "Nationalism" can be the same sort of enthusiasm for a state or country, but it can extend into loyalty to the state. "Jingoism" is a tendency to justify unfairness and bad behavior with nationalist excuses.

You're an Australian, though.

Do you, as an Australian, object to the US Open using Jacob's Creek as an official sponsor?

You object to the Australian Open using foreign sponsorship, so surely you object to other countries doing it too.

What's that saying?

Oh yes, I remember: "what's good for the goose is good for the gander".

I find it a strange choice, that's for sure, but it doesn't concern me that much.

If people don't want to drink bottled water from China, they could always have a glass of Jacob's Creek Cool Harvest Sauvignon Blanc.

Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the water.

Okay, then.

In that case, yes : it is a bit strange.

I'll agree with you on that.

One thing's for sure, if you hadn't heard of G***** Water before you certainly have now.

Thanks to ACA, they're receiving millions of dollars worth of free advertising.

I only use bottled water for mixing photographic film development chemicals now

A bottle of water I bought from Woollies years ago had a strange fungus growing in it, the bottle was sitting around for days before ready for drinking, when new the water looked ok but the "fungus" grew and was quite visible after a while. I took it back to Woollies for a refund
