I would go for the reading list of the most recommended. The men's reading list I posted above is a good list of books that I want to use for my 100 must-read books. I can go to the library every couple weeks and get out a book on the list to read.

Some reading lists include the bible or the koran. I'm actually considering an interest in Norse Mythology.

I've read the Bible twice (hello Honky, if you're still reading this forum).

I'm pretty sure the Bible was in the list you posted.

I have my grandmother's bible sitting here at home. In the last 15 years, I have tried to read it twice. I never got far. I figure I should read Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Game of Thrones series, and all my other books before I try to read the bible. I can replace that book of fiction with something more readable.

Two books that stood out in my school days were:

Island of the Blue Dolphins
and
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. (A very short but powerful story.)

For a very old-fashioned but laugh out loud book:
Three Men in a Boat

Romulus, My Father was great as a book compared to the movie, which lacked the detail required.

For a longer read: David Copperfield is much better than you might expect.
