Don't bother with 'top 100 lists'.

Get a good history of literature book, read it and see what you like. You have to make your own must read lists, not follow someone else's.

I would go for the reading list of the most recommended. The men's reading list I posted above is a good list of books that I want to use for my 100 must-read books. I can go to the library every couple weeks and get out a book on the list to read.

Some reading lists include the bible or the koran. I'm actually considering an interest in Norse Mythology.

As they should.

Both good reads.

I've read the Bible twice (hello Honky, if you're still reading this forum).

I'm pretty sure the Bible was in the list you posted.

I have my grandmother's bible sitting here at home. In the last 15 years, I have tried to read it twice. I never got far. I figure I should read Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Game of Thrones series, and all my other books before I try to read the bible. I can replace that book of fiction with something more readable.

Never read the bible but I'd like to read the histories of Herodotus. By all accounts he's a highly entertaining bloke.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

I can't seem to figure out what to read. The Game of Thrones books. Or the double feature Red Dragon & Silence of the Lambs.

Two books that stood out in my school days were:

Island of the Blue Dolphins
and
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. (A very short but powerful story.)

For a very old-fashioned but laugh out loud book:
Three Men in a Boat

Romulus, My Father was great as a book compared to the movie, which lacked the detail required.

For a longer read: David Copperfield is much better than you might expect.

p.s.

A really interesting book about the natural world:

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

The 2025 election could be a shocker.

Rocky, you can"t bear rhe Sallies. I've bought 'rhe first circle', 'the executioner's song' and 'a thousand years of solitude' from there among many more. Two bucks each.

I don't understand what you mean. Where did you get them for $2 each?

I think he means the Salvos - The Salvation Army.

I've never heard them called the Sallies before, though.

I have heard them called that.

"Animal Farm" by George Orwell. It reads like teen fiction. But has that sort of sophistication to it. I already want to read the last 40 pages.
