Jan 15th, 2018 at 11:15am

Because EV's don't use fossil fools so are not taxed via a fuel excise the greedy LNP have got their greedy beedy little eyes on EV's trying to gouge EV owners instead of encouraging this technology onto our roads in order to reduce GHG emissions !!

Nup not the LNP ! Anything you can't set fire to they don't want to know about Sad

Now's not the right time to tax electric vehicles but at some point taxes would be necessary. I wouldn't have a tax on electric cars. All vehicles should have the same tax regime. An annual odometer tax is one idea but better alternatives are possible.

The real problem is that motorists - no matter what they drive - are used as cash cows by the government. How much of the fuel excise that is raised each year is actually spent on roads?

I would have no problem with some form of alternative taxation on vehicle usage, as long as all of the money raised was spent on maintaining the road network and all tax concessions for businesses were removed to broaden the tax base.

Toll roads are a particular problem. These funds do not pay for the road but are used instead to fatten the wallets of wealthy rent seekers. Some of these companies don't even pay tax on billions of dollars in revenue such as Transurban. Toll roads should have more taxes applied to them or the tolls should be tax deductible for all users.

Gosh he's off and running again.

All electric cars the whole 100 or so of them DO use FUEL as they don't run on Greeny dreams.

Thus they load up the electricity network which uses fuel and costs money to run.

Hence it is responsible govt action to cover the additional cost of the electricity network.

And of course LostSnail will rush in and claim renewable rubbish will supply ALL power even when the wind stops and at night.

But there would be NO uneconomical renewable rubbish if it was not being heavily subsidized by taxpayers' money.

And all the unreliable unstable renewable rubbish in the country is not worth a bumper without hydro or coal stable fundamental supply.

what 100 EV's are loading down the whole electricity network Cheesy LOL

In case you didn't know socko, EV's contain large storage batteries so can easily be charged up from renewable energy sources such as rooftop solar. The same thing can't be said about your dirty old unreliable fossil fool clunkers where you are forced to make a donation to Malcolm so he can provide us with his junk copper NBN.

It should be based on tail pipe emissions as well which would encourage people to migrate to EV's. But of course Australia never made EV's so we will have to import them like everything else.

Well, at the  end of the day, everything on Earth is solar energy.  The hydrodams, the solar panels, wind farms, and even fossil fuels are actually solar power at its very basic.  So perhaps, an annual sunlight tax is in order.

Vroom! Vroom!! Now where can I suck some power out of the power system to increase the load on the power generator ?

The utter absurdity of the TOPIC is that, for example, SA is struggling to meet their load now and so what would happen if suddenly several thousand all electric cars with flat batteries connected and kicked up the load ?

The answer ? Simple - BLACKOUTS!!!!!!

But the highly intelligent technically aware Greenies say, "Oh I will recharge my all electric car overnite with my solar panels!!!!"

Gosh LostSnail is revving to heaven now with the Greeny stuff and some "graphs" plucked from the ether just like the croc does.

Wonder if he wants to BAN Australia Day ?

No Global Warming for 20 years now.

How embarrassing for the Greenies who have built their whole rotting political platform on their fraudulent Global Warming HOAX.

Now they are trying to replace that with their SSM YES VOTE inspired degendering rubbish.

Heavens!! LostSnail talking about understanding the TOPIC!!!!

It is the actions of a responsible govt to cover the cost of services.

1000's of all electric cars would flatten the electricity network and so the govt has to limit the extra load.

And another farce the UNSW is bulldusting that it is going to get ALL its energy from Solar.

But the small print says UNSW will sneak a bit during the night and on cloudy days.

I think a lot of urban greenies forget Australia extends beyond the postcodes 3001, 2001 and 4001.  Why it even extends beyond the Sydney City Council, Melbourne City Council and Brisbane City Council.

You're right Nail,
the Libbos encourage mediocrity.
They don't want people getting out of paying taxes
to use the congested roads.
They squander most of the petrol excise & GST
on paying public servants -
how much is actually spent on the roads?
Seems like all the new roads are toll roads with
their rich Libbo mates raking in billions.

They would tax the air you breathe if they could.

People already get charged on their electricity usage and 100 EV's is not going to break the grid unless you are  worried about wide spread adoption which seems to be the motivation of these draconian policies from the party that gave us the junk copper NBN Sad

Yes most of the excise on fossil fools goes into consolidated revenue so their claims are all lies Sad
