So sick of partisan bs on things like this. When a Labor mp does it the lefties stay silent and righties scream blue murder, and vice versa when the opposite happens. I don't care which side does it, behabiour like this is appalling and disgusting and Danby should be sacked. Not good enough to pay it back. When amy one else does this, they don't get to just pay it back. They are rightly sacked, or prosecuted. Why should it be any different politicians?

Didn't I read something recently that good old SHY was whooping it up on the purse, again?

I thought seeing as she worked as a bank teller, albeit for 5 minutes,  she'd show some responsibility with other people's money.

DNA reckons it is funny that Labor is so corrupt.

Bull S. is the puppet of the corrupt unions.

The Labor Party is controlled by the corrupt unions.

So if you want Australia to be stuffed up by the corrupt unions then vote for Labor.

And Tony Abbott is the puppet of the Catholic Church - that's why they don't trust him.

Omg......

On April 20, 2016, Ms Hanson was invoiced $20,460.76 for staff travel expenses but took almost a year to pay it back – 355 days

A year prior on April 20, Ms Hanson was invoiced $15,186.34, but instead of paying it outright she negotiated for a $1300-a-month payment plan.

The creep is on $200,000 a year at least. That's about $17,000 a month. She should have paid it immediately even if she had to eat baked beans on toast for a month or two. She would still be far better off than people in poverty that she's so eager to screw over.

But again, why do you think that they should just pay it back and gave no other consequence?? I refer again to the robber analogy that I gave.

Danby should immediately repay any dubious claims and be more diligent in future. It's a disgrace that social security recipients are being hounded for every dollar the government can extort out of them with false debts while the parliamentarians who make these laws can get away with dubious expense claims.

he refuses to even explain oh wait... its the staff these dreadful public servants the pollies have to put up with... Sad Sad Sad... send them back to the typing pool...

It's his own chosen staffers.. the PSerpents just sign off on it after a cursory check... his staff arrange his business travel...... etc... etc... etc....

Which PS is going to knock back a claim and cause a ruckus, when their job is on the line?  and in the grand scheme it's ONLY a few dollars, really - this poor guy is burdened with having to handle BILLIONS of dollars of taxpayer money.... so just forget about it, Moncrieff.. or you're looking at checking naval de-barnacling returns in Darwin in high summer..... and approving meal allowances for overtime...... in a non-air-conditioned hut.... tar paper sides...........tin roof..... no insulation.......

Heavens! That master of irrelevancy LW has suddenly appeared with the usual arm waving irrelevancy.

LW how about some fake news ? Your speciality.

Are you thinking of doing some fruit picking ?

And DNA is quick to deny the blindingly obvious - that the utterly corrupt unions control EVERY aspect of the equally utterly corrupt Labor Party. And that the old burnt out union brown noser Bull S. is just a puppet of the unions.

Really a fertile field for the Libs to hurl truck loads of dirt at Bull S. as the election approaches. Not to mention the huge amount of dirt unearthed by the TURC.

So it really goes without saying that Bull S. hasn't got a snowball's hope in Hell of winning the election.

A general interest charge would be good e.g. something like 21.75% PA.   100:1 is probably a bit too harsh.  The general interest charge is what we as tax payer pays if we make a mistake on tax return and had to rectify later on.

It's like I keep saying, we have filth representing us in our parliaments. Even the mafia turns down every job application from an Australian politician wishing to join that organisation.

I do not think that. What I was discussing here was the very soft "payment plan" that inflicted virtually no pain on her. $1300 a month? $300 a week? 8% of her earnings? REALLY?

The real problem here is not so much how they choose to repay the overpayment, but how it happened in the first place. The rules are very lax. A politician can make a personal trip to somewhere, and during that trip schedule a press conference to make an inconsequential announcement about something or other, and then they can bill the cost of the entire trip on the taxpayer because it included some part that counts as "official business". That's a massive rort.

I would have a pro-rata time-based system. They spend 5% of the time on a trip doing official business, then 5% is claimable. A tighter definition of official business is also needed. Making policy announcements should not count because those can be made anywhere. Electorate business should not be claimable outside of the electorate. If they choose to bring their partners or families with them, they pay for that themselves. It might cost a bit more to administer, but the savings to be made by cutting the expenses would pay for this many times over.

And don't get me started on how electorate allowances are openly rorted. That's another mess that is need of a cleanup.
