It would really piss the Funeral Directors off if, when the oak box was bought, someone carved their name on it.  "Re-sell that, you Bastard!"

Wow, funny you should say that!

That's exactly what I've told people to do with mine.

Carve your initials in it, cover it in stickers, or write a message with a black marker etc.

but asking for $1700 and then swapping it for a $70 one..

no never heard of that......

that cant be right at all...

It isn't.

The funeral company said the body had to go back into the freezer and the silky oak coffin would crack if it was put in there, so the body was temporarily transferred to a pine box then transferred to the original box for the bbq.

I am going to be cremated, hopefully by a sump oil fired oven billowing out lots of black smoke.  Then all the people who are arseholes will ingest my pollution and cough and splutter.

how does anyone find all this out????>..

no one expect a coffin to go into a freezer..room alone would prevent that happening...come on do you believe that???>.

funerals are very secret business.... maybe it is time the lid was lifted..

I will go alone with not burning real oak coffins... I understand that   but to charge $1700 or even a $100 is a bit rich...

I have always told my lot  cardboard or even a green garbage bag will do me.. just dont look. Smiley Smiley

They've been ripping people off for years, and they always get away with it.

Every ten years or so they say there's going to be an investigation, and then it all goes quiet again.

The funeral directors will give you a bill that says "Funeral Expenses - $500", but it won't say exactly what the service was.

Moreover, there's no requirement for them to itemise the bill.

There's hardly any regulation in the industry, and they exploit that to the max.

I'm the same as you: cardboard box, cremation, and no funeral service.

A great ruling for these scumbags should be that they are cremated in cardboard boxes.

I don't know what that means.  I know the person in the photo, but beyond that, I do not understand.

Some Americans are using alternatives to the Industrial Death Complex. For example, in North Carolina, there is a place where corpses are composted.

Naughty.

However, why spend money on a thing that will be incinerated?

I had wondered that a few times over the past week. Why spend more than necessary for a respectable coffin?
