The Homeless Tent City Has Returned

Tent city returns to pitch at Martin Place
The Daily Telegraph
January 2, 2018

JUST when you thought you could go back to Martin Place — the homeless bandwagon is back.

Less than six months after Lord Mayor Clover Moore declared the streets had been cleaned up the organisers of Sydney’s Tent City have returned to the centre of the city.   Sad

Lanz Priestley, 59, the self-declared “Mayor” of Martin Place said he had set up an around-the-clock soup kitchen for the homeless through Christmas and New Year. “Bloody Clover is having a party costing thousands at Dawes Point, the government spends all this money on fireworks yet they unsee homelessness and food poverty in their own constituency,” he said.   Sad

Ms Moore had an exclusive, invitation-only party at Dawes Point for 2000 guests to watch the fireworks at a cost to Sydney ratepayers of $620,000.
A soup kitchen has been set up for the homeless through Christmas and New Year.

“I truly hope Clover has a wonderful New Year’s Eve party but the homeless still exist in the CBD. Don’t worry Clover, we’ve got this covered,” Mr Priestly said.

However, he has not managed to keep everything in his own life covered. After the tent city was abandoned in August Mr Priestly was given an Apprehended Violence Order after a dispute with his 20-year-old girlfriend over the children’s card game UNO.

Ms Moore negotiated last year for the homeless to move on from Martin Place and be housed in temporary 24-hour safe spaces at a cost to the council of $100,000 but within days of their August exit many of those were back on the streets.

Mr Priestley said the new camp was only temporary. “We set up here for 24 hours a day over this period as those are the peak periods for family breakdowns … we will pull it down tonight,” he said.

A City of Sydney spokeswoman said the council was spending $27 million on affordable housing measures.

“The City of Sydney continues to work with state government agencies to manage public access in Martin Place, while supporting the needs of people sleeping rough in the city,” she said. “The City of Sydney supports the NSW government’s protocol for People in Public Places, which promotes the rights of people who are experiencing homelessness to access public spaces without the risk of discrimination. fireworks yet

Is someone 'harvesting' the fortnightly dole-cheques of these Voluntary Homeless? Has it become someone's little cottage industry that's fattening his bank account? Maybe a tithe on everyone's fortnightly dole payments?

These tent cities are a misrepresentation of the West's Humanitarian Capitalism which provides billions of dollars in a staggering catalogue of Welfare Benefits for all kinds of hardship, and as such are bogus and a fraud upon the taxpayer and shames our reputation.

What these people need is the head of the prison guards in the Shawshank Redemption to set his men in amongst them with their night-sticks.

Clover Moore who was bitten by the Greeny bug wants them there as this plonking of under dogs in flatulent areas is part of the Greenies' AGENDA 2030 UN bulldust.

And here's a good article with lots of pictures and videos.

Self-declared 'Mayor of Martin Place' brings his homeless 'tent city' back the heart of Sydney six months after police tore it down
By JOSH HANRAHAN FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA PUBLISHED: 01:34 AEDT, 2 January 2018 | UPDATED: 07:50 AEDT, 2 January 2018

The organisers of the Sydney homeless 'Tent City have returned to Martin Place
Lanz Priestley was setting up a food kitchen at the controversial site on Monday
Police issued Mr Priestley with an order to move on within minutes of his arrival
Rows of homeless tents were removed from within Martin Place in August 2017

The man at the centre of Sydney's homeless 'Tent City' has returned to the site less than six months after he and its residents were cleared out.

Having been moved on from their makeshift homes at Martin Place in August dozens of the organisers of the camp returned to the site again on the first day of 2018.

Led by Lanz Priestley, the so-called 'Mayor of Martin Place', a group set up an around-the-clock soup kitchen at their old stomping ground on Monday afternoon.

Taking to Facebook to share video upon his return to the once overcrowded area, Mr Priestley said he had been told to move on by police within just minutes of his return.

LostSnail is trying to sound intelligent.

And there is a rumor that GetUp! rejected someone - I wonder who ?

Actually the Martin Place tent city would be perfect as a Labor Party HQ.

And this sort of bullshit, my friends, is why I seldom
bother to visit or post comments any longer.

Sad, really. It WAS a good place to be - once.

Now it's just full of blind hatred of anyone or anything
which isn't authoritarian far-Right in nature.

God help Australia... because the sort of attitudes and
beliefs which I find prevailing and dominating this place
nowadays never will.

Attacking the homeless and claiming it's some kind of
stunt to rort the dole.is the final f&%king straw AFAIC.

I understand your pain, Kat, and your moral outrage, but can you understand those of us who believe a sizable percentage who pose as 'homeless' are in fact malingerers who prefer the personal freedoms that come with living off the dole rather than having to suffer the rigors and disciplines that are essential to maintaining a working life?

I know malingerers when I see them. I know 'bullshit' when I see it. Clover Moore offered safe haven and a place to stay for the Tent City people who had bedded down in Martin Place the first time ~ and they knocked it back. They knew that it would lead to the authorities sorting out who were the genuine cases and who were just sampling an alternative lifestyle, and that many of them would be obliged to attend job interviews that were arranged for them.

I lived in China for 7 years, Kat, and that's where you could see people who were genuinely homeless with a leg or arm blown-off, and no Nanny State Centrelink Benefits to ease their passage through life. I believe things are different now, and China takes some care of these people.

What we see here in our Central Business District is a Collective of Socialist Idealists who would rather flop down on the pavement among their own mendicant kind than get a job and support themselves.

Those who are suffering from mental conditions should be fast-tracked to the nearest psychiatric wards, and the others sorted out into their various categories and dealt with accordingly.

Sob Sisters like you are no more help to these sort of people than you are to the Abos and their Victimhood Industry.
