dear Sprint,
I've been burnt too many times resurrecting old laptops.
Unless the laptop is an i7 quad core I wouldn't bother spending any money on it.
Just try & save the data on it with a USB backup hard drive
& buy a new laptop.
It is an i7 , don't know what core.
5+ years old. I agree with your idea of not spending much money on it.
I more want a ghost of the entire HDD I have now than just various files.
Am thinking the NAS will do that easy peasy.
Then I still need another new HDD/SSD .....
Yes, so a new spare SSD/HDD on USB now is a good idea.
Copy this one old HDD entirely onto a new SSD/HDD.
Hey, may a well put the new one in as soon as it is done ?
Thanks Bobby
As Set has said the HDD you have linked to is not an SSD type drive.
Not all i7s are quad cores - some laptop versions are only dual cores.
Find the type of CPU:With Win7:
From the Start Menu open the Control Panel. Scroll down to the section marked System and then select View amount of RAM and processor speed. From the window that is displayed, you'll be able to see which edition of Windows your PC is running, as well as the system type,
processor and amount of RAM installed.
In the pic below it says 2 CPU ( & core2 duo) so it's only a dual core.
