Quote:
George Pell: Complainants to give evidence on historical sexual offence charges over two weeks

It is expected to take up to two weeks for the complainants against Cardinal George Pell to give their evidence at an upcoming committal hearing, a Melbourne court has heard.

The 76-year-old will face the pre-trial hearing in March next year on historical sexual offence charges, involving multiple complainants.

No other details of the case can be reported for legal reasons.

Cardinal Pell strenuously denies the allegations.

I wonder if Tony Abbott will appear as a character witness???

Huh Huh Huh

I hope so, they know each other well. Perhaps that's why Tony walks the way he does.

Yes - where did Tony get that crab like gait from?

Unfortunately, the current Minister couldn't make the final day due to other pressing matters

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

No prosecutions yet.  Plus how many fake accusations to get free easy money?

It is funny isn't it.  Everyone went off over the union commission.  No one dare say boo over the abuse one.

Porter actually gave a very good interview last night.

Did I miss something? the Commission recommended that celibacy should be optional for Cathaholic Priests.

I think history will show its been pretty much optional for them forever

Breaking the seal of confession could pit church against state

Australia's Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has just made recommendations that could electrically charge the relationship between church and state.

It has advised that legislators in Australian states and territories should enact laws to specifically overrule the confessional seal. The recommendation would require mandatory reporting to police from priests who hear confessions concerning child abuse.

The recommendations, if enacted, would place the church and the state in direct legal conflict and would require fundamental change within the international Catholic Church.

While priests in other Christians denominations do hear confessions, for many of Australia's five and a half million Catholics the "seal of confession" is a sacred and secret matter, even when it comes to the heinous crime of child abuse.
How the royal commission plans to protect kids

Here are the main recommendations to change the way Australia responds to child sex abuse.

The world's 1.2 billion Catholics are regulated by canon law, and the Pope is its supreme legislator. The current code of canon law states that "The sacramental seal is inviolable; therefore it is absolutely forbidden for a confessor to betray in any way a penitent in words or in any manner and for any reason."

Any priest who breaks the seal of confession is subject to the Church's most severe penalty — automatic excommunication, revocable only by the Pope.

Will priests break the seal of confession?

Will they risk losing their job to expose a pedophile?

Hi sir Nail,
there are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world.
If each one gives $1 per week to the church that's
$1.2 billion per week -
that's $62.4 billion per year of income - tax free!

and all for a product that doesn't exist - eternal life in heaven -
something where no one has ever claimed a warranty or guarantee
as there's no such thing.

At least they'll have money to pay the compensation
which I hope is in the 10s of $billions

Quote:
Of the survivors who reported being abused in a religious institution, 61.4% said it occurred in a Catholic organization.

In February 2017, the commission revealed 7% of Australian Catholic priests had been accused of abusing children inside religious institutions. In some orders, more than 40% of brothers were implicated.

Trouble is no evidence other then lynch mobs.

See that is the issue, there is no hard evidence.  Not that it did not happen, just it is a crime where often there is no evidence, thus easy to frame someone.
