Yes ... they are computers hooked up to the internet

of course they get viruses

you can buy the same brands of virus protection for your mobile as you can a home PC

in fact when you buy new phones these days they usually come with a virus protection for 6 to 12 months.

this phone is 5 years old  iphone

It's technically possible, but highly unlikely for an iPhone to pick up a virus.

All operating systems have vulnerabilities. For some reason people seem to think apple is safer, it's not.

They're a lot safer.

"There have only been a few iPhone viruses ever created and most were created by security professionals for academic and research purposes and haven't been released on the internet."

209      Code execute vulnerabilities this year. As I said, if your phone is not running the lastest patched IOS it is vulnerable. If it was a 3 year old phone and not updated it would have almost 500 code execute vulnerabilities alone.

I'd say a hell of a lot more that you but when someone asks if their phone can get a virus, they're really asking is their OS susceptible to to being compromised, especially an apple user as they are almost all totally clueless. Viruses are not the only compromise, do you know the difference between a worm and a virus with out googling perchance?

He said it was an iPhone.

As I've already explained to you, there are no anti-virus apps for iPhones.

There are apps put out by anti-virus companies (for iPhones), that protect against vulnerabilities.

However, there are no apps that specifically target viruses for the iPhone.

Why?

Well, that's quite simple - there are none on the net.

If you require further education on this subject, you can consult me via PM.

We don't want to bore all the other forum members with your ignorance, do we now?

No, I'm just stating the facts.

Security vulnerabilities are not viruses.

You can thank me for this lesson later.

Or now.

It's up to you.

No you are being a pedant, an apple user rarely has any insight into IT, in fact most people don't. If you were an IT person and discounted everything because of what a user said, acted just on the question asked, you'd be out of business PDQ.

Customer:Does my computer have a virus?
Greg: No but seeing you didn't ask if it had a worm, I won't tell you.

Customer:Does my computer have a virus?
Greg: No but because you didn't ask if it had a rootkit, I won't tell you.

etc, etc.

Perhaps, but it won't be for this. You might help me change a tyre one day or run me to a servo when my car is out of juice, you never know.

If it's hooked up to the internet you can get virus protection.

But if in 5 years you haven't had a virus in that time then you mustn't use it for the internet much if at all.

Virus protection for an iPhone?

Not too sure about that.

There are security apps for iPhones, available from anti-virus companies, but I'm not aware of any actual anti-virus apps for an iPhone.

Plenty for other smartphones, though.

"All of the major antivirus companies – McAfee, Symantec, Trend Micro – have security apps available for the iPhone, but none of those apps contain antivirus tools. Rather, they focus on helping you find lost devices, backing up your data, securing your web browsing, and protecting your privacy."

Is It Possible to Get an iPhone Virus?

And isn't that all a help in preventing corruption of your device?

Which is what a virus would do.
