I hate ham unless it's sliced very finely and spread with chutney or overlaid with slices of Sandwich Gherkins.

Try sliced Devon instead.  It's nicely spiced and salted. Eat with stuffed olives. Don't forget a thin spread of HP Sauce.

To die for.

My old work used to give us a huge ham in the hamper and I'd struggle to get thru it all.

I'd prefer just to buy sliced prosciutto.

I haven't had to bother about a ham for years.
My daughter & her husband win them in club raffles in Canberra every year. They've already win two in the last week.
They also win meat trays regularly and it's not as if they buy a lot of tickets. They just seem to be lucky.

Interesting.

During my niece's last visit I let it slip that I often buy my rump streaks from a halal butchery. It was the wrong thing to say.

I promised her I won't do it again, and so I won't.

I used to get mine from my old butcher but it is a bit far to travel nowadays.

Last year I bought a Coles ham and it was pretty good, well priced and NOT full of water.

Although Christian. I dont see how Legs of Ham constitute a Christmas tradition? It is nothing but a marketing gimmick and one of many that pop up over the years. I totally support Moslems and their desire to ban Leg hams for sale at Christmas. Pork has nothing to do with Christianity, let alone anything religious at this time of the year. It is just another retail fad for the uncultured and unreligious. By the way, should not the Athiest be working through the Christmas period?

I like a good mildly salted ham at Xmas- but the hams this year are not particularly nice here- Ham is a tradition in our family in that I buy one every year- who cares what moslems like or dont like- they dont like xmas either but this is australia- so they can shove off

Did they have turkeys during Christ's time in the Middle East? I doubt it.

The giving of presents has, of course, become a 'hoisted by our own petard' self-harm kind of thing ever since presents have gone from just a few modest dollars to being a crippling expence upon the family budget nowadays.

Coles has some very good Free Range Boneless Loin Ham (glazed with Canadian maple syrup).

Ham and pork keep the Jews and Muslims away. When places like Spain forced the conversion of Jews and Muslims, serving pork at high feast days was a way to unmask the sham Marranos and Moriscos from the honest converts.

Not sure who is going away here and who will be at home so I might just get the butcher to thinly slice some ham off the bone for me.
