158,504 people died in Australia in 2016 that is 432 people a day. What are you going to do about that appalling statistic little pecca? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Were they forced to race around a track, with a 50 kg jockey on their back (whipping them), against their will?

I'm curious.

Humans are not horses.

Are you deranged
, I'm curious.  Roll Eyes Grin Cheesy Roll Eyes

well  the answer to that is yes-but I hate the way horses are treated in the name of sport- so he is right in this case- the re racing industry is cruel and I haven't had a bet for a long time- for this reason

all domestic animals could be open to this claim.
i dont agree racehorses are treated cruelly.
certainly , the whip arguement is a no go.
there is no way that this hurts a horse,
thorroughbreds are bred to have a certain type of behaviour.
they are bred to be flighty and nervey and they like running.
thats their nature.
because "you" imagine that being whipped to run faster would be cruel for a human, dont think that a horse thinks like you.
a thorroughbred is very very highly strung.
a good run is 'therapeutic" for them, in the same way a good walk is therapeutic for your border collie.

if PETA think that there is any purpose for thorroughbreds other then running very fast, they are simply wrong.
they would NOT enjoy standing in a one acre paddock,
they would get stress ulcers.

so dont breed them if you dont want to race them

The experts say you're wrong.

I know who I'm gonna believe.

there are so many other examples of abuse Aqua-seriuosly punishing handicaps/ running horses in long races in the heat Melb Cup/ drugging horses etc- all contributing to falls and broken limbs- and THEN they shoot them- I hate horse racing-  its pitiful and it IS cruel and should be banned- Peta are next to useless as are the RSPCA- all paid to turn a blind eye- the whip to me is incidental- the weight handicaps do a lot of damage- look what it did to Farlap /Pharlap the greatest racehorse of all time- his heart practically exploded from the burden of the massive weights they put on him- he had an enlarged heart because of it

agnes, carrying 60 kg instead of 55 kg isnt a biggie.

they are treated more like "elite athletes' nowadays.
they are in the pool or in the water walker  every day.
they have expensive equisage massage equipment.
they have the best of hoof care. the best of vet care. the best feeds.
a lot of racehorses are taught all the relaxation techniques that pirelli introduced to keep them calm. they float incredibly well. you virtually never see one scramble. they have companion ponies (even goats sometimes) that go to the races with them so they dont get the separation anxiety.

they are pampered.

i dont buy the "running around in the hot melbourne sun' arguement.
most lick the bowl clean after a race and if they didnt the trainer would probably sleep in the stable with them and fret about them.

now contrast that with the life of a stock horse droving in western qld.
he is working cattle in 45 degree heat, eating dry chaff. carrying a 100 kg bloke all day who doesnt have the balance and skills of a 55 kg jockey. he gets shod by his rider . the shoes go on and off all the time if he is working over rocks. he gets the itch and skin irritation from all the native plants and rubs half his tail off on a stump due to the worm burden.

really, thorroughbreds have a pretty good life. they are probably in air conditioning .

now after racing and for the slow ones , i agree , it aint all good.

but dont feel too sorry for the ones you see going around. they are some of the luckiest horses in the equine world
