Who is your God, Lisa ?

Is he, what we understand to be, the God of the OT ?

Lisa,

I would argue that in an anthropological sense, and, in a spiritual sense, our 'personal' god, is that which we love and worship, and idolise.

What we 'give ourselves to',       is also, is really, our 'God'.

Romans 6:16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Exodus 20:1
And God spake all these words, saying,
2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Q.
Who should we worship, as our 'God' ?

A.
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Why ?

If anyone needs to ask that, then they don't know him.

They do not know the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Read the first 5 books of the Holy Bible,       and you will get a sense of who the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, is a harsh God, to those who are his enemies.

But the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, is a God of truth, and of love and of judgement and of mercy.

Isaiah 55:6
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Isaiah 1:17
Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Psalms 119:1
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2  Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3  They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

No ?

Matthew 22:36
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38  This is the first and great commandment.
39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

That reminded me of something. Remember World Youth Day 2008? I was doing the Bondi Bronte walk and noticed some youngsters holding some kind of service on the rocks, and I noticed they had a foam box and it got my curiosity.

I got as close as I could without looking stalky and inside the box were....wait for it... LOBSTERS! Live lobsters.

They were letting them go into the water and praying for them. Seriously....WTF

I was so tempted to go home for my snorkeling kit and re-catch them Smiley

I don't pray to anyone or anything. I take responsibility for my own actions.
If prayer actually worked there would be no kids dying of cancer or poverty.

If God has a divine plan then prayer isn't going to change that.

Perhaps the most absurd sight is when sports people make a prayer before a game. Is God really going to intervene in a sports game yet leave kids to die of cancer, die in wars and die in poverty?

Prayer is nothing but an ancient superstition

I pray to the one and only God, the God I have never seen, I don’t even know his name, the God that calls himself “I am”.

The God that came down to Earth as the man Jesus and called himself “the son of man” who also died a horrible death at the hands of his own creation as a man and not a god, all we have is his testament.

That’s the God I pray to.

Vulcan,
The rapture will happen soon be prepared. Know and believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and sins of the world shed his blood and rose three days later from the grave and went back to heaven to prepare a place. Turn away from your sins and ask forgiveness and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal Saviour. God will forgive your sins no matter what they are.

It is ok Sir Bobby. I was being sardonic I think. I totally believe in God. But like everyone I too have to sepnd much of my existence almost praying like to my work. thankfully God gives me strength to overcome it and treat it with some humour at least. Jesus died for all of us and even for those who do not embrace his light. He died for their freedome to do so. Jesus loves all and even recently he embraced the love of those who have had to live in the darkness with their sexuality difference. Jesus loves Homosexuals too. They are more than worthy to be respected and loved by all.

Jesus does not like homosexuals.
He might be prepared to forgive them if they give up their
devilish ways and are truly repentant.

If you truly understand Jesus and what he taught. then you will realise the difference of what Jesus taught and what the Churches taught afterwards. Listen to Jesus. Not just what the religion teaches you. Jesus forgave everyone Sir Bobby. Even homosexuals. He thought they were worthy to be forgiven and he died for their sins too because they were worthy to him.

I don't recall Jesus ever mentioning homosexuals.
certainly they are hardly mentioned at all in the new Testament, certainly not directly if I recall correctly.

Same I don't recall Jesus saying anything about homosexuals, especially that he would save them from their sinful life.

If you truly understood Jesus and his teachings then you would understand that he would forgive and accept Homosexuals and would die for their sins. That was what made Jesus the Son of God and an example to us all. He could do, what many could not.
