Euthanasia Bill passed. Well done Victoria.
Nov 29th, 2017 at 2:25pm

"Victoria has become the first state in the country to legalise assisted dying for the terminally ill, with MPs voting to give patients the right to request a lethal drug to end their lives from mid-2019".

link

What is the likelihood of all those who voted against the bill refusing assisted euthanasia when their time comes?

What a shame their names aren't being recorded for future reference for when they are desperate to be relieved of their terminal condition.

Yes it's great - I'll be able to die with dignity.

The bill in its current form is restricted to only a very few who will qualify to receive its benefits, but it's expected that with the passage of time amendments will be made that will start to include an ever-widening circle of others who will be granted the same right.

The argument that abuses will happen is one that I believe is not sufficient reason to preclude the vast majority of those who are terminally ill from accessing the option for an assisted death.

Why is there a delay of 19 months until it starts?

Well done Dan  Smiley, whilst our federal government is stuffing around with plebiscites you're making it happen

I didn't know that. Typical bureaucratic red tape and procrastination laziness.

If it was a Bill to give themselves a boost in pay it wouldn't take 19 days let alone 19 months.

I agree.

The federal government believes a plebiscite on gay marriage takes priority over asking the public what it thinks about euthanasia.

They held the plebiscite on gay marriage only because their own private polling showed the "Yes" vote would win the day.

Isn't it ironic (A. Morrisette) - that the Western Medical system (that is a part of a nation that is more apt at winning wars!), is incorporating 'Assisted Suicide'...
...when in their countries (UK/USA) they have their own 'alternative' Medically assisted suicide in the form of illicit drug use like Heroin, Crack, Ice, Flacca, etc.

Isn't that right Marla?! Wink
