MUSIC royalty Malcolm Young, the Australian guitarist and AC/DC co-founder, has died aged 64.

Known for the powerhouse riffs and rhythm guitar that propelled the Sydney group to superstardom, Young had been suffering from dementia for at least the past three years.

He died peacefully on Saturday with his family by his bedside, a statement said.

“With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band,” AC/DC said on its website
As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man.

“He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.”
Younger brother Angus said the pair were close until the end.

“As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special,” he said.

“He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.”

Shame the drugs and alcohol kinda stops them from sitting back in old age and getting to enjoy everything they have been and done.
Drugs & Alcohol - so people can 'forget'.
Alas, when the time comes for them to reflect and remember ...dementia kicks in.

Is 'success' really worth that?
Are you not a great Musician, Singer, Songwriter - without the need to be 'successful'?
Did you sell your Soul to the Devil of Drink n' Drugs, because you couldn't make it any other way?

Love your music and so do Great White Sharks.
But you left your own song unfinished.
You left without really saying
...goodbye.

Makes me think that show business is not such a great profession -

it seems that hardly anyone in it can cope without
alcohol and drugs.

It's just the 'self-destructive' USA music scene - especially with the males.
Europe is a bit more level headed and I mean 'mainland' Europe. They take their music a bit more 'professionally' and hence why the Eurovision has been a leader in inspiring other 'Song contests' around the world.
I've seen 'young' music/singing beginners in Australia - where they only want to make it big in America.
Why? It's all about the 'fast money and easy sex' - not really the 'music' itself. Music is just a means to an end to get the money/sex/fame.
Led Zep put the music/singing first - that's why they concentrated in making it in Europe. They eventually were forced to tour USA reluctantly and it was just for the 'money', rather than their desire to make good music.

Led Zep is not a good example with John Bonham dying young at age 32 from alcohol.

64 is not too young for dementia with his drinking and drug taking. I knew a lady who was going senile at 48 years of age. She looked more like 68, given her chain-smoking habit. Actually, she would be 68 today if she has not carked it yet.

Never heard of him.

But yes, it's sad news that he's gone to his Heavenly Reward. Why 'sad', to be brutally honest I'm not entirely sure, but being one of the sheeple I'm going along with you lot with the ashes-and-sacks.
