Julie Bishop heir apparent Liberals
Nov 19th, 2017 at 8:22am

It seems that the presence of Julie Bishop as an obvious choice to the Liberal Party's woes looms larger than ever

Malcolm Turnbull is hanging onto the Leadership by the skin of his teeth. The citizenship debacle of which Turnbull was as much of a victim as anyone seems to be the final straw in a series of reversals for the Government

For the Liberals to go to the next Federal Election with Malcolm Turnbull as Leader is looking less likely

The latest Opinion Polls show that Julie Bishop is seen as strong, decisive and kind. She far out guns Turnbull in the popularity stakes and seems to be someone who can stand up to Blackout Bill Shorten

Standby for changes once Bennelong is settled

News Article:

Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop has craftily dodged admitting whether or not she has ambitions to one day be prime minister, after a poll found voters favoured her as Liberal leader over Malcolm Turnbull.

When pressed over the Labor Party-commissioned poll, in which voters described her as an “intelligent” and “strong” leader, Ms Bishop twice avoided answering what plans she might have in climbing up the Liberal Party ranks.

When asked by ABC Insiders host Barrie Cassidy if she harboured ambitions to be leader one day, she replied: “I have stood for election as a deputy leader of the party and our party has elected me on a number of occasions and so I will continue as deputy as long as my party elects me as deputy.

“I’m committed to working with Malcolm Turnbull and I agree absolutely with Barnaby Joyce is the leader of our party and will lead us to the next election and I look forward to working with him as the deputy leader of the Liberal Party.”

Ms Bishop dismissed the poll as “mischief making” by Labor.

The poll, convened by UMR Research, found Ms Bishop’s personality traits were perceived as more appealing – “talented”, “smart” and “good” – than Mr Turnbull who was most commonly described as “arrogant” and “smug”.

Its findings were consistent with a 2016 Roy Morgan survey which showed Ms Bishop as preferred Coalition leader over Mr Turnbull – 34 per cent to 25 per cent.

Meanwhile, Liberal Party president Nick Greiner, the former NSW premier, has presented the party with an ultimatum: unite or lose the next election.

“If it isn’t resolved, if we’re not able to present a compelling, unified face to the Australian public, we won’t win the election in two years’ time,” Mr Greiner told Sky News on Sunday.

“I think it is as simple and as stark as that and everyone involved knows that.”

Mr Greiner said he would meet with both Mr Turnbull and his predecessor Tony Abbott to encourage them to resolve their differences.

Professor Rodney Tiffen, author of Disposable Leaders, told The New Daily that disunity is “usually a precursor to defeat”.

“Of the 73 successful leadership challenges since 1970, only 16 have occurred while the party has been in government. Of those, [Paul] Keating and Turnbull have been the only ones to keep a majority at the next election – and only just,” he said.

“It’s usually a precursor of defeat. It is a very public admission the government is not on track or is failing.”

Professor Tiffen said Ms Bishop has been dubbed by some as the “Lady Macbeth” of Parliament – the Shakespearian character who goaded her husband to kill the Scottish king – following her part in the ousting of Mr Abbott.

But he said it was unlikely she would ever replace Mr Turnbull as party leader, let alone become prime minister.

“She has been relatively isolated in her portfolio of foreign affairs and failed badly as shadow treasurer and had to be moved,” he said.

“But they [politicians] will never say never.”

Tho she does have chameleon-like qualities -- whichever way the wind is blowing.
Abbott and likely his supporters think she was disloyal or complicit as his deputy (which is the conservative side of the party), and if turnbull is rolled (the liberal part of the party), she as turnbull's deputy will probably face similar criticism.
If a deputy is a 'wing-man' she'd be a failure.
But who knows? It is politics.

I, for one, am at a total loss to understand how she ever got elected at all - let alone became a minister.... apart from the desperate lack of understanding of reality in the Far West....

She has no talent, no genuine empathy, has carried out not one solid piece of 'statesmanship' during her tenure, has no interest or concern over the well-being of this nation first and foremost, and has the political nous of a snake.....

Word for Today:-

'tenture' (n)....

i) .. a tenure held under a very flimsy, thin, and diaphanous 'roof' or covering, with only dirt beneath and a few pegs to hold it in place....

ii)  a tenure likely to blow away in the first high wind ....

iii)  a position you can get your teeth into and out of

Todays announcement of the suspension of the next week's sitting of Federal Parliament Party describes the chaos that the Liberal Party  is right now

With the loss of the numbers in the Lower House the Liberals are running scared

With players such as Senator George Richardson declaring that 'they will' cross the floor on Banking issues, the Liberals are at War with themselves. Couple that with Malcolm Turnbull's sinking approval rating, which is nearly line ball with Blackout Bill Shorten and you have a recipe for chaos

Waiting quietly in the wings for the calls to come Julie Bishop is playing her cards close to her chest

Her time is coming and it will come a lot sooner than most people realise

The Liberals barely tolerate women in the party - no chance of one being the leader any time soon. Suppose that doesn't rule Julie out though.

Trust a moth eaten sorry arsed left winger whose idea of getting dressed up is to don his best jeans and T and head out for some action

You wouldn't know class if it bit your sorry arse Greggy (you should be so lucky)

Julie Bishop is class personified but don't let that take you away from the fact that she is supremely talented

All the Liberal P.M.s have seen that and that is why she has kept her high profile portfolios as the dominos have fallen

Getting the feeling that this might be her time..if so she will grab the opportunity in both hands

Bishop is no shrinking violet and would handle the rough and tumble with consummate ease and with class

Made a speech about giving away millions to some other hell hole

Gave away........oh shite

All she can do is give away money to read beats.

As prime minister, she will be able to give away billions

I reinterate, if she get the job, we is screwed

But, I digress.

I hope she does take over from Mal - that will guarantee the Libs three terms in opposition.

She is ugly as hell.
But I will admit that Bishop should have been the first Australian 'female' Prime Minister, rather than the self-indulgent over-ambitious Gillard.
She is tactful, intelligent, slick and effective in getting results.
She is highly respected by the International Scene,
so was Alexander Downer.

...but this is Australia - where the 'wrong' people get to be PM and the right choices fall by the wayside.
Hence why the success of the SSM - just shows how stuffed up Political Australia is.  Grin

Unfortunately, when the 'wrong' people get into politics and the party chooses its ministers and its prime minister - the people having no real say there - you will always get the 'wrong' kind of person as prime minister.

This is no exception.  Why would anyone in his/her right mind want one of those small horizoned/bounded by huge empty spaces/Banana Republic types from Over West to be our PM?

Why should we, the electors, really care, since we have no real say anyway and it's all just window dressing?

Now in a republic with a PEP........ in the meantime the PM and ministers are just mates given a nice ride on top dollar for doing nothing but being good party members and loyal to their donors and supporters and special interest groups - not the electorate.

Then we have the spectre of Labor's affirmative action to entertain our dreamless sleep.... or sleepless dreams....

Yes 2007 John how remiss of me to forget 2007...that was when this biggest f.... up in Australia's history was launched

I'm talking about Labor bringing in the National; Broadband, a financial and physical disaster still ongoing today

This millstone once started had to be batted on with because succeeding Government had a runaway train to deal with

A financial blowout something like 70 billion dollars and climbing...than ks Labor for saddling us with this lame duck that doesn't perform and which we are given no choice in having once the shite rolls past our house

Then who could forget the 'roof insulation' disaster in which some people were actually killed by this pile of rubbish legislation

Ahhh yes...the heady years of the Rudd..Gillard...Rudd Governments Cheesy

I wouldnt touch Bishop with John Smiths dick let alone my own.

A leader no way!

The only one of them who seems at all capable is to me is Cormann, he seems capable of negotiating with the other parties and handled the LGBTI vote organising quite  well.
