    It was a combination both.....

Reagan's 1981 Tax Cuts:

Quote:
....More than 14 million new jobs were created over five years; incomes grew by over 22 percent for the next seven years; and the economy grew by over 3.5 percent, on average, for the rest of the decade........

CATO Institute Policy Analysis

Conclusion:

The 1980s were years of economic progress, not decline. Real GDP grew by about one-third in the 1980s. The economic gains were widely distributed among income groups, with every income quintile, from the richest fifth to the poorest fifth, gaining ground in the Reagan years.

The Reagan tax cuts were not a primary cause of the eruption of the deficit in the 1980s. The main two causes were an unexpectedly sharp reduction in inflation in the early 1980s that led to large real increases in federal spending, and a nearly $1 trillion military build-up during the last phase of the cold war.

Most significantly, the economy of the 1980s outperformed that of the 1990s in virtually every measurable category.Economic growth was higher, job creation was faster, incomes rose much faster, and productivity climbed at a healthier pace.

I hope that clarifies things for you......

That would be nice, Panther, if your source wasn't a privately funded think tank with the sole purpose of reducing corporate taxes and government services. The Cato institute is a perfect example of the globalist, free market, high immigration economic policy Trump promised to end.

There is no direct correlation between lower corporate taxes and higher employment. This has been measured with both the Reagan and Bush tax cuts. The Bush cuts saw unemployment rise and the economy stagnate, but this was complicated by Sept 11.

The only result of the Bush tax cuts - and the invasion of Iraq, homeland security and health care spending - was the doubling of US debt.

Therefore, Citation(s) is/are required that corroborates your claim(s) that the CATO institute, in & of itself, is what you say it is, & that the policies you claim they lobby in behalf of, directly contradict President Trump's stated objectives.

Trying to lay claim to this reduction is ridiculous since it as done on Obamas policies and budget. Trump has done neither except sit in his chair and watch TV

The Cato Institute is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization under U.S. Internal Revenue Code. For revenue, the Institute is largely dependent on private contributions. The Cato Institute reported fiscal year 2015 revenue of $37.3 million and expenses of $29.4 million.[5] According to the organization's annual report, $32.1 million came from individual donors, $2.9 million came from foundations, $1.2 million came from program revenue and other income, and $1 million came from corporations.[5]

Sponsors of Cato have included FedEx, Google, CME Group and Whole Foods Market.[120] The Nation reported support for Cato from the tobacco industry in a 2012 story.[121]

The Koch brothers later founded the Tea Party. They have only just made friends with Trump.

Yes, President Trump Did Accomplish the Impossible.......

And he started it with the 2017 Federal Budget.....

Because the Republicans & democrats could not agree on a 2017 Budget, the Republicans, in both the House & Senate, put together a 2017 Federal Fiscal Year Budget, & passed it in both those chambers, which they controlled, without input from ex-President Obama or Congressional democrats.

Congress Finally Passes FY 2017 Federal Budget
on May 4, 2017

Source:
The National Coalition for History
       Quote:
On May 4, Congress approved a $1.1 trillion omnibus appropriations bill that will fund the federal government for the rest of fiscal year (FY) 2017. President Trump is expected to sign the bill into law. Across the board, history, archival and education programs were either level funded or received small increases. This should be considered a victory given the current budget climate.

Up until May of 2017 the Federal Government of the United States was funded by Republican budgets, crafted & passed by House & Senate Republicans, as  Continuing Resolutions to avoid a Government shutdown.

Therefore, the entire 2017 budget, signed into law by President Donald J. Trump on May 5th, contained President Trump's proposals, inserted into the final Budget by House & Senate Republicans.

The previous Obama Administration failed to get it's Budget approved because of Republican objections to a number of ex-President Obama's policy authorizations in the Budget.

Virtually every policy authorization in the defeated Obama Budget was removed , & the resulting Republican Budget is the Budget that President Trump signed into law for fiscal year 2017 on May 5th.   Wink

President Trump Accomplishes the Impossible: Reduces Debt to GDP Ratio by 1% His First Year in Office

President Trump’s policies have decreased the Debt to GDP ratio by 1% while at the same time the Atlanta Fed announced yesterday that the 4th Quarter GDP estimates have increased by 0.2% to 3.4%.

Since his inauguration President Trump has focused his efforts on the security of the country and on the prosperity of its economy.  The results of his actions are taking shape.

The US GDP has increased each quarter in 2017 with the 3rd Quarter GDP increasing to $19.496 trillion – the highest GDP for any country in world history.

On the other hand, the President has curtailed US spending.  The result is that the US Debt to GDP ratio has decreased year to date from 105% to 104%.

No President in more than 50 year years has decreased the Debt to GDP ratio in his first year in office by more than 1%.  The last President to do so was Nixon in 1969.  Presidents Reagan and George W. Bush decreased the Debt to GDP ratio in their first years in office but by less than 1%.  President Obama increased the Debt to GDP ratio his first year in office by 15% and by 37% over his eight years in office.

In related news the Atlanta Fed announced that the 4th Quarter US GDP estimates have increased from 3.2% to 3.4%.  This increase in GDP would make the GDP increase for the year near 3%, something that hasn’t occurred in more than 10 years.

"No President in more than 50 year years has decreased the Debt to GDP ratio in his first year in office by more than 1%.  The last President to do so was Nixon in 1969.  Presidents Reagan and George W. Bush decreased the Debt to GDP ratio in their first years in office but by less than 1%.  "

In Stark Contrast:

The Failed Social Experiment ... Ex-President, Barack Hussein Obama,
increased
the Debt to GDP Ratio
his first year in office by
15%
and by
37%
over his eight years
in office.
