My first ever Lobster (or Crayfish?) was at a Laotian Wedding back in 2010.
While I was eating it, one by one - the guests at my table were getting up an leaving, some looked 'disgusted'.
It wasn't until I got to the head and found that it was too hard to 'crunch' through - that I realised that eating a Lobster 'shell n all' is not the way to do it.

Long haired Tarzan strikes again!  Cheesy

Funnily enough,  the menu called them crayfish in the western grill section and lobster in the Asian section.

I ordered the crayfish.  Yummo

Abrolhos Islands, during the off season
Just dive down grab some crays, split the tail with a sharp knife, bit of lemon juice then under the grill.

It does not get much better than that.

A Rock Lobster would never ever taste as good Smiley

They wanted our product called rock lobster for the US market, a Cray there is an inferior product.

No need for such verbal masterbation in Australia however

Mostly its been Crayfish and they do so in New Zealand as well.
In fact, the only people who call it Lobster are Americans.
Crayfish is like the Metric system - 95% of the world uses it.
Lobster is like the Imperial system - only nations who create Recessions and Depressions, use it.

I use the word Lobster and thought only West Australians used the term Crayfish.

I LOVE Lobster and unless I had it every night for a whole year would not tire of it.

American Lobsters  ...

...

Even better.  Alaskan King Crab   ...

...

What we have on offer here and the excessive price we have to pay for it is criminal.  We probably export the best to Asia.

I don't remember ever eating lobster. I've had crab dipped in vinegar (or whatever, but that was around 1952 or so).

95% of the world would call that picture a 'Crayfish' Black Orchid.
Of course, if Australia is selling its best Crays overseas - like, to the USA, they call them Lobsters.

East Coast Australia - always heard them called Crayfish.
Only the last 10 years where all these snooty restaurants and Cooking programs appearing - referring to them as Lobster. But hey, we all know everyone in Australian Media wants to 'make it big' in the USA.  Grin Total sell-outs.

Diving two weeks ago. I had an enormous Cray come out to greet me. Of course it was enormous, because it was in a Sanctuary Zone.  Cool

in Sydney we call them Lobsters and we do not sell them to the USA.  The USA have been smart enough to stop the decimation of their sea life by Asian trawlers.  We, sadly, have not.

I believe most of our Lobster exports go to China.

One of my regular treats is to buy $10-worth of King Prawns and shell them and eat them while I'm watching evening TV.

Pull the head off ... de-nude them of their shells ... slop them in a bowl of vinegar ... pop them in my cake-ole.

To die for.

Same with my fesh-n-cheps.   Tongue

What is the difference between a Greyhound terminal and a lobster with boobs.

???

One is a crusty bus station and the other is a busty crustacean.  Roll Eyes

You'd be a fan of W.C.Fields then. Always pickled.

Well I hope he at least told the Crayfish that it will be going to a better place after it dies and that its death is for the glory of the great Packhorse God in the sky. A place of endless waters, bountiful virgin Crays, massive rock over-hangs and no wire traps.

Dived Lake Jindabyne once.
The Yabbies down amongst the remains of the sunken Town (really ghost-like and eerie down there) were bountiful and of really good size.
