So if Black people in North America still consider themselves to be 'African' - then I can see why 'Americans' would like to 'distance' themselves from them (Africans) in return.

My advice to any 'black' person who is like 4th generation born in North America. FFS - let the 'Africa' thing go!!!!!!!
For starters - by referring to your 'blackness' as being 'African', you are basically expressing that Africa is ONLY for Black people!
