more shootings in AMERIKA.

AUTHORITIES say five people have been killed and seven injured in shootings at multiple locations in rural Northern California, and the shooter has been killed by police.

Students also were shot and wounded at a primary school. There are unconfirmed reports that police shot and killed the shooter

It comes as a man says his roommate is among the victims in Northern California — and that his neighbour was the gunman.

Brian Flint told the Record Searchlight newspaper in the city of Redding that his neighbour, whom he knows only as Kevin, also stole his truck. He says he and his roommate told police that their neighbour was acting “crazy” and threatening them.

Flint says he had been shooting “hundreds of rounds” from large magazines.

The crazy thing is that the neighbour has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines,” Flint said. “We made it aware that this guy is crazy and he’s been threatening us.”

Authorities have recovered a semiautomatic rifle and two handguns after the shootings in the rural subdivision described on its website as a “quiet private country community” where “the people are friendly and the pace is relaxed.” Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, said no one was killed at the school with kindergarten through fifth grades.

I mass shooting per day. That is more murders in mass shootings in the United States than there are murders total in Australia every year. Considering that even the population density of the United States would explain the difference between Australia and the United States in terms of violence, the United States still has a murder rate 5 times higher than Australia.

The 1 mass shooting per day is bullshit, the USA has had 94 mass shootings since 1982 if mass shootings are defined as 3 or more killed.

When Australia allowed semi auto rifles with silencers for self defence the USA had a 5 times higher homicide rate compared to Australia.

Since this shooting was done with a semi auto rifle with large capacity magazines it shows the California 1994 assault weapon ban has failed to stop these shootings in California.
Quote:
With limited exceptions, California prohibits anyone from possessing an assault weapon unless he or she possessed the firearm prior to the date it was defined as an assault weapon and registered the firearm with the California Department of Justice (“DOJ”) in the timeframe established by state law.1

California also prohibits any person from manufacturing, distributing, transporting, importing, keeping for sale, offering for sale, giving, or lending any assault weapon within the state.2 However, DOJ may, upon a finding of good cause, issue permits for the manufacture, sale, or possession of assault weapons to certain law enforcement agencies and officers and to approved individuals over the age of 18.3 DOJ must conduct a yearly inspection – or every five years if the person to be inspected has fewer than five permitted devices – of every person to whom a permit is issued, for security and safe storage practices, and to reconcile the inventory of assault weapons.4 Generally, no lawfully possessed assault weapon may be sold or transferred to anyone within California other than to a licensed gun dealer or to a police or sheriff’s department.[/highlight]

California has some of the toughest gun laws in the USA, the 50 BMG is banned in California yet we allow the 50 cal to be used by licensed firearm owners in Australia.

The men behind the US's deadliest mass shootings have something in common -- and it's not mental illness

Nine out of the 10 deadliest mass-shooting perpetrators have a history of threatening, committing, or verbalizing domestic violence.

Perpetrators of domestic violence are supposed to be barred from buying guns nationwide.

According to the nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety, the majority of mass shootings in the US are in some way related to domestic or family violence. Perpetrators of domestic violence are legally barred from buying guns, according to federal law. But many have been able to get high-capacity firearms anyway.

Oh, dearie, dearie, me.  Just the same old news from America.  Another mass shooting, ho, hum.   Just the Baron again making excuses as to why he should be allowed to own a semi-automatic long-arm, "just like in America..."   Why, Baron?   You got four or more Australians you want to kill?  Tsk, tsk.   Gun nuts, everywhere.    Roll Eyes

As far as I am concerned, mass shootings are 4 or more victims. 300 mass shootings since the beginning of 2017 is not 94 since 1982.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/california-gunman-kevin-neal-gunman-had-neighbo...

INVESTIGATORS have reportedly found the body of a woman under the floorboards of a home belonging to California shooter, Kevin Janson Neal. The woman is believed to be his wife.

CBS reported Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston as saying he believes she was killed on Monday and her death sparked his rampage.

“There was a hole cut in the floor ... we’re confident that he murdered her, shot her at some point on Monday, and just put her body in the hole in the floor and just covered it up,” he said.

The news means a total of six people died, including Neal, who was shot and killed by police. Nine more were injured, including seven children, Mr Johnston said.

It came as it was revealed Neal had been out on bail for stabbing a neighbour — but told his mother a day earlier that he was done feuding with his rural community, according to reports.

“Mum, it’s all over now,” Kevin Janson Neal’s mother said he told her in their final conversation. “I have done everything I could do and I am fighting against everyone who lives in this area.”

The New York Post reports the following day, he donned a ballistic vest, grabbed a semiautomatic rifle and two handguns and went on a 45-minute rampage across Rancho Tehama Reserve.

He killed two of his neighbours, stole their truck and drove around as he randomly picked off his targets in seven locations en route to the Rancho Tehama Elementary School.

Sarah Gonzales had just dropped off her daughter when the gunman blocked her car.

“He pretty much stopped me and shot at me three times through his windshield,” Ms Gonzales said, according to CBS News.

When he stopped firing, she said, he continued toward the school, where staffers heard the gunshots and made a critical decision to lock the building down.

“The quick action of those school officials, there is no doubt in my mind, saved countless lives,” said Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston.

Neal tried to enter the school, but couldn’t get in as he unleashed 30 rounds before taking off. No teachers or students were killed.

“He did shoot at a number of classrooms which resulted in the injury of at least one or two students that I’m aware of,” the sheriff said.

A short time later, a patrol car rammed Neal’s vehicle before officers opened fire and killed him.

A six-year-old boy, identified him as Alejandro Hernandez, was hit inside the school, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Arlene Monroy, 17, told the Bee that she had been told Alejandro was shot in the chest and leg, but was recovering and expected to be all right.

Mr Johnston said Neal’s motive appeared to be to exact revenge on his neighbours.

“And when it got that far, (he) went on a rampage ... He was driving up and down the street shooting at passers-by,” he said.

Several of his shots struck a vehicle carrying a woman and her three children. The mum was severely injured and one of her sons was injured as well, though his wounds weren’t considered life-threatening, Johnston said.

“She was trying to drive herself to the hospital when I encountered her on the road,” he said. “She told me that she doesn’t know this person.”

Eyewitness Mariana Aguiniga said she was driving when she came upon a mini-van driven by the woman.

“She wanted to know if I could take her to the hospital. Then she showed me,” Mr Aguiniga told the Sacramento Bee, motioning to her back. “It was covered in blood.”

One of the fatalities was a woman who lived near the gunman and was the victim of an assault in January that ended with Neal in jail, the paper reported.

Neal’s mother, who would only give her first name, Annie, said her son told her he grabbed a steak knife out of his neighbour’s hand while being threatened. The neighbour was slightly cut, she said Neal told her.

The mother, who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she raised Neal, said she posted his $US160,000 bail ($210,000) and spent $US10,000 ($13,000) on a lawyer after he was arrested in January.

Mr Johnston said he believed Neal was slapped with a restraining order after the January arrest that would have prevented him from owning firearms, at least temporarily.

In April, the District Attorney’s Office charged him with assaulting a second person, also in late January, according to Tehama County court records.

Tehama DA Gregg Cohen told the Bee that his office was prosecuting Neal on charges related to a stabbing and assault with a deadly weapon involving two of his neighbours.

Police had also visited Neal’s house a day before the shootings on a domestic violence call, authorities said, but gave no details.

Neal’s mother said her son recently married his longtime girlfriend.

In her last few conversations with her son, Annie said he sounded desperate and distraught over his relationship with his neighbours, who he said were cooking meth that created fumes that were harming his nine dogs.

“All of a sudden, now I’m on a cliff and there’s nowhere to go,” she recalled Neal telling her. “No matter where I go for help here, I get nobody who will help me. All they are doing is trying to execute me here.”

Neal’s sister, Sheridan Orr, said she had not talked to her brother in months, but that he had struggled with mental illness and at times had a viole

She said she believed he was addicted to drugs.

“We’re stunned and we’re appalled that this is a person who has no business with firearms whatsoever,” Ms Orr said. “Our deep, deep sympathy for the victims and it sounds trite but our hearts are breaking for them.”

Ms Orr added, “If we can do any good to make people realise there must be some gates on people like this from getting guns,” she paused. “This is the same story we’re hearing more and more.”

Cristal Caravez, who lives across a ravine from the road where Neal and his first victims lived, said she and others heard constant gunfire but couldn’t say for sure it was him firing.

“You could hear the yelling. He’d go off the hinges,” she said. The shooting “would be during the day, during the night, I mean, it didn’t matter.”

She and her father, who is president of the homeowners association, said neighbours would complain to the sheriff’s department, which referred the complaints back to the homeowners association.

“The sheriff wouldn’t do anything about it,” Juan Caravez said.

Annie said Neal apologised to her during their final conversation, she thought for all the money she had spent on him.
