Petry sets up new party

Former chair of the AfD Frauke Petry has announced the formation of a new conservative party in Germany, the Blue Party.

She quit the AfD amid concern it had been captured by far right elements. Her announcement has seen quite a number of elected AfD politicians also announce they are leaving the party, presumably to join Petry's new party.

It remains to be seen whether this new party arouses the interest of the general public more than has the AfD party.

She will be greatly encouraged by what has been happening in Austria.

Wanna hear more?

She's accused of lying under oath about her party’s finances.

She was formally charged with perjury two weeks ago, and could face a prison sentence.

"The charges against her relate to the AfD campaign ahead of regional elections in her home state of Saxony in 2014.

"Ms Petry is accused of lying under oath to an electoral commission which was investigating allegations of financing irregularities."

Former AfD leader Frauke Petry could face jail after being charged with perjury.

Perception is everything, and it looks like a personal vendetta just as Abbott had against Hanson. Frauke being made to look like a victim of the political elite can only help her cause.
