I think mine is 67.
Not sure who to blame.
Islam?
Depends on when you were born.
The pension age increased to 65 and a half on July 1st this year. It will increase to 66 on July 1st, 2019 then to 66 and a half on July 1st, 2021 and finally 67 on July 1st, 2023.
I was born in August, 1957 so I can't get the age pension until I'm 67. But, I'm planning on taking my super (as a pension so it doesn't get taxed) when I turn 61 next year and dropping down to one day a week at work.
And this will eventually drop to zero once I know I have enough super left to get me through to the age pension.
If I could have got the age pension at 65 I'd be retired on my super already.
There's also rumours starting to go around that the government want to increase the pension age to 70 in 6 month steps every 2 years starting from 2025. I'll be long retired by then, thank goodness.
I was born in 1956 ... I knew my pension eligibility age had increased to 66.5 years when Rudd did his changes when Prime Minister the first time around 2009/2010.
The increases didn't just come into affect this year .... they were all dependent on the year in which you were born.
