Anybody who has done their Family History will know that "marriage" dates back to the year dot ... or when people could write and fill in Church Registers.
actually, marriage existed long before it was hijacked by the church
And among very many people, all over the world.
Not always between a man and a woman.
Got a link to that comment?
A significant body of academic work shows that marriage and "other solemnised relationships" have not always been between "a man and a woman".
A Link. omg... well you do read some weird stuff..
as we are talking about marriage as we know it.. or thought we did..
can we see some of the registrations of these homosexual marriages that took place hundreds of years ago... I am not disputing homosexuality in Roman times ..but we all know Nero was depraved as many of them were...and mock ceremonies do not make a marriage..
unless you are gweg that is.
Aye - and that's always been oddities and transgressions and has subsequently been stamped out... thank you for coming. I read the links thanks, and it clearly shows that 'some' homosexual priests etc carried out homosexual marriages, but that practice was outlawed fifteen or sixteen hundred years ago... you are not permitted to cite illegal acts by some rogue priests that may have occurred subsequently. Part of the reason for the attacks on the Templars, centuries later, was that they were cited as being homosexuals.... and thus agin the nature of Man and of God!!!
This kind of nonsense is like arguing with the 'feminist' minded about the suffragettes - who, by their violent and illegal and irresponsible actions, actually delayed the vote for women in Britain for twenty years after it was granted by majority vote under the first vote employing universal male suffrage in 1900 in Australia.
MEN gave women the vote in this nation at the first possible opportunity - MEN delayed it for twenty years in Britain due to the activities of suffragettes.
There is a lesson there for those who wish to learn properly and stop listening to the voices they think are from the Oracles.
Round 2:- "actually, marriage existed long before it was hijacked by the church "
Indeed - but it was always solemnised by priests or heads of tribes or whatever.... just because one specific brand of religion adopted it and applied their own rules to it makes not one jot of difference. Attacking some amorphous 'church' has no meaning whatsoever in the discussion of marriage.
Now - when you talk about 'the church' - what exactly 'church' do you mean?
