Federal Level Politics puts the International arena as a priority.
State Level Politics puts the Domestic arena as a priority.
Due to an 'International' entity (Union Jack) on the Australian Flag - the International scene has a priority over the Domestic.
In other words - the Federal has more power over the States.
In a way, there doesn't really seem a good reason for Domestic to be the priority as Australia doesn't really have a self-sufficient population growth (for want of immigration) of any magnitude to warrant a priority.
Australia is a business, not a Family.
Occasionally, all States join together, especially if all are the same 'opposition' party to the Government Federally. Who then can enforce a more substantial effort to get their own way 'over' the Federal excuse.
So if you want to put Australia first - then vote your party of choice at State level (and hope that all the States have the same Party).
If you want to put the UK & USA first ...then vote your Party of choice at the Federal election.
