Good one to start with - my first barra, 101 cm, caught on Saturday on Fraser Island.

Very nice & yummy!
I haven't a clue how to fish, but I do occasionally spearfish.
Mostly though, I potter around some shallow water amongst aquatic plants and slowly put my hand under a Flathead and 'bingo' - just like that  Wink
I'll see if I can post my next Flatty or even speared Mullet.

It's not as big as the one you bought at the Sydney Fish Market a few years ago.

They do have size limits on Barramundi, in the NT it's minimum 55cm maximum 90cm for legal catch

Yeah I had a bit of a panic about that. Max size in QLD is 120cm. 90cm seems a bit small.

Move over Rex Hunt, I never fail to catch at least one of these beauties when fishing inshore.

Yep. It was actually a double hookup, so they were both circling the boat in opposite directions for about 10 minutes. Mine was landed on a cheap kmart 6 ft rod. I could only cast about 20m with it.

Hmm. I'm mostly going for Crays right now. Saw one guy get out of the water with a gashed hand where the Cray pushed his hand up against the rock and he had to quickly rip it out or have a dire consequence.
Silly Tourist.
I've got 5 so far over the last month. Gave them away to people, even a tourist.

I get seasick and bubbly ears if I spend too much time looking for crays.

The trick is to keep diving, even if just halfway down. Don't spend too much time bobbing around with the slop on top.
Spend as much time under.
Soon as I surface, I do my breathing stint and then go back down, mostly to a half-way mark to look around - which is always better than from the surface.
I would even go so far to say that it improves my retention after 30 minutes of doing it.
We call guys (and women) who just slop on top mostly as 'Jellyfish'.
I dive down and strafe just above the bottom by 5 metres (if in 15m) for 10-15m in regards to any directional travel. I'm also recognising underwater landmarks better. My surface time is just breathing time - almost like a zen moment of nothing else, but breathing.
If I see a Cray, etc - then I dive back down to that spot fully and begin the extraction with my special tool.
