VERY nicely put, Jeez. Fact is, the only manned subs in future will be strategic, not tactical: missile boats with a score or so of ICBMs in onboard tubes, and hanging about offshore the likely targets, completely undetectable.

The tactical subs will ALL be semi-autonomous drones. Think about it. You're most likely going to attack shipping supply convoys. You want speed, depth, maneuverability and - above all - expendibility. If necessary, EVERY MISSION A SUICIDE MISSION. Robot subs, obviously (unless you're a dedicated Muslim).

The moment you put a human onboard, most of the boat is life support systems, and only the remainder for weapons. Remove the humans and the whole boat is weaponry. All of which is far too complicated for Brian Ross and his FRONT LINE INFANTRY (cue The Simpsons) to understand.

So all of this Frenchy crap is just a clever way of earning money. If hostilities ever DO break out, the REAL troops will be sitting in command centres controlling fleets of UNMANNED, autonomous drones. Seats in high-flying C-17s if you're in the airforce, seats in shoreline barges if you're in the navy, and if you're in the army, well, best of luck. Write to Brian Ross for advice - he's the Oztralian Military Xpert.
