Does not mater as long as Hayne is destabilising them. It is a no win position.

..........THIS is the video that proves an NRL club must hire Ipswich Jets coaches Ben and Shane Walker and why Wayne Bennett attends every Jets game.

The most innovative coaches in rugby league today, the Jets score more tries from inside their own half than any other team.

Their methods have been copied by Broncos supercoach Bennett who has wound the clock back with Brisbane this year to return them to their entertainer status........

...........RUGBY league’s most radical coaches, Ben and Shane Walker, have put their hand up for the Titans job and believe their freewheeling style can help Jarryd Hayne rediscover his magic.

The Ipswich Jets co-coaches are so confident in their ability to rebuild the Titans they are prepared to walk the ultimate NRL career tightrope by signing a death-or-glory one-year deal.

Two years ago, the Walkers ignited Queensland’s premier competition, the Intrust Super Cup, deploying a fresh tactical style that powered Ipswich to the first premiership in their 35-year history.

The Walkers achieved success with the lowest budget in the Intrust Super Cup, giving the former Brisbane Broncos duo confidence they can fire at the NRL’s equivalent paupers, the Titans.

The Walker brothers have put Ipswich on the map with their expansive playing style.
The Walker brothers had lengthy NRL playing careers, amassing a combined 285 top-grade games between 1995-2006, and scoffed at suggestions they are a high-risk package deal.

“Whatever the procedure is, we’re interested in coaching the Titans,” Shane, 39, said.

“We see the Titans as a sleeping giant. We see them having great potential and I have no doubt rugby league can succeed on the Gold Coast. It’s got a community that is itching for a winning football team.

“We’re not begging for a job, but we know what we do works and we would love to get the Titans prospering.

“We’re prepared to sign for only 12 months if that’s what the Titans wanted.

“We would back ourselves to have success in 12 months and there’s a good chance the Titans would see that and want to us beyond that.

Ipswich celebrate after winning the NRL State Championship Grand Final in 2015.
“Job security is not what drives us. We have successful businesses away from football so we do this because we love it.”

The Walkers pride themselves on man-management and cultivating a tight-knit team culture.

With player discontent a key reason for the sacking of Neil Henry, the Jets co-coaches believe their enterprising approach will inspire Titans players and see the Hayne Plane take off.

“Our style is made for Jarryd Hayne and Ash Taylor, who like us is a Toowoomba product who played touch football all his life,” Ben Walker, 40, said.

“I’m certain we could work with Jarryd Hayne.

“He is a superstar and I am confident we could get the best out of him.

“At the end of the day, he is one of the most talented players in the competition and if you get him playing to his ability, then he can single-handedly put you in the finals race.

“Earlier this year, Wayne (Bennett, Broncos coach) dropped Ben Hunt and after one training session with us, he absolutely thrived under our system.

“We would need to see what makes Jarryd tick, but he would get freedom under our system because we encourage our players to take a chance that presents itself if they have trained for it.

“There’s a number of things that interest us about the Titans. They’re a Queensland team, a one-team town and an underachieving club that has never won a premiership.

“We haven’t just fallen out of the tree as coaches.

“We have developed our playing style over 24 years of football. It delivered a premiership in the Intrust Super Cup and we have no doubt it would work even better in the NRL with a squad of full-time, more talented players.”..........

seems the decision has not been made yet.

...........BEN and Shane Walker will be interviewed by Gold Coast hierarchy on Wednesday as rugby league’s most radical coaches move a step closer to the Titans job.

The Courier-Mail can reveal the Titans have drawn up a shortlist of six that includes the Walkers, who have received the backing of NRL Immortal Andrew Johns in their quest to coach in the NRL.

Johns has contacted the Walkers pledging his support, claiming their unique tactical methods would breathe life into an NRL world he believes is dominated by “robotic” coaching structures.

The Walkers, who played 285 NRL games between them, have had success in Queensland’s Intrust Super Cup, breaking Ipswich’s 33-year title drought two seasons ago.

The Walkers declined to comment but it is understood the duo will be formally interviewed by a Titans committee comprising CEO Graham Annesley, board member Geoff Jones, Anthony Laffranchi and Maroons legend Gorden Tallis.

Tallis has links with the Walkers, with the triumvirate having been teammates at the Broncos for two years between 1999-2000, the latter season featuring Brisbane’s fifth premiership win.

The Titans had Queensland coach Kevin Walters and recently sacked Souths mentor Michael Maguire on their radar. But Walters is set to sign an extended deal with the Maroons, while Maguire is being heavily linked to Warrington following the exit of Tony Smith.

That has opened the door for the Walkers, with Walters praising their desire to take on one of the toughest jobs in the NRL — rebuilding the Titans.

“They won a premiership with the Jets two years ago,” the Maroons coach said.

“Their methods are certainly different to what the normal standards are and a club has to be prepared to take all that on board.

“I haven’t been coached by them, but there is a job going and they’ve publicly stated they want the position, so good luck to them.

“They are having a crack.”

The Walkers’ freewheeling style has polarised opinion but it has produced results.

In seven seasons at Ipswich, the Walkers have made five finals campaigns and delivered the Jets’ maiden title in 2015 with one of the lowest budgets in the Intrust Super Cup.

It is understood other contenders to succeed Neil Henry include Geoff Toovey, Adrian Lam, Todd Payten, Craig Fitzgibbon and Laurie Daley, who was sacked as NSW Origin coach last month.

Speaking last week following his appointment on the Titans panel, Tallis scoffed at suggestions the Walkers’ style would be too risky for the NRL.

“I’d say give them a crack,” he told Triple M radio. “You don’t know if they are ready to coach NRL until they coach some games (in the NRL).

“They were training twice a week with guys (at Ipswich) and they play a great brand of football.

“They would throw a spanner in the works, not everyone would work them out ... they would certainly break down a lot of the systems that clubs are defending against.”

Ben Walker told The Courier-Mail last week: “We don’t see our style as risky or a boom-or-bust style of playing.

“All it does is allow players to use their skills, ability and flair, which is what got most of them to an elite level in the first place.

“This hasn’t happened overnight. It is a style we have developed over a long period of time. It would work in the NRL.”

TOP CONTENDERS
MICHAEL MAGUIRE: A standout candidate but is being heavily linked to Warrington and may be leaning towards another stint in England.

GEOFF TOOVEY: The former Manly coach has applied for the job. Will warrant consideration after taking the Sea Eagles to the 2013 grand final.

LAURIE DALEY: Has pedigree as a NSW Origin legend but has family links in Sydney and could be reluctant to move.

TODD PAYTEN: The 38-year-old is rated one of the game’s best emerging coaches. Has impressed as an assistant to Paul Green at the Cowboys.

ADRIAN LAM: Former Maroons halfback and now Mal Meninga’s Test assistant. Is keen to launch his NRL coaching career.

BEN AND SHANE WALKER: Considered a risk by some but the co-coaches have unwavering faith in the methods that won Ipswich a title two years ago........
