http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/vandals-attack-historic-hyde-park-stat...

THE fierce debate over whether to change the date of Australia Day has turned even nastier with vandals defacing three iconic statues in Sydney’s Hyde Park, including one of Captain Cook.

The words “change the date” and “no pride in genocide” were spray-painted variously on all four sides the iconic Captain Cook statue at the southern end of Hyde Park.

At the northern end of the park, on Macquarie St, a similar attack was made on the Lachlan Macquarie statue, which had the words “change the date” spray painted on it while a bag was placed over his head.

Across the road in St James Square outside the NSW Supreme Court, the statue of Queen Victoria was also vandalised.

Police believe the vandals struck between 2am and 3am on Saturday.

“Three crime scenes have been established throughout the park and inquiries are continuing,” a police spokeswoman said.

Council workers cleaned the statues with paint rollers and high pressure water hoses and had the graffiti removed before midday.

The graffiti attack comes as the debate over whether the date of Australia Day should be changed has gathered momentum and become increasingly emotional.

MIRANDA DEVINE: THIS WON’T CHANGE HISTORY

This week, broadcaster Stan Grant called for the working on the statue, which says Captain Cook discovered the territory in 1770, to be changed.

In a radio interview this week, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Grant’s opinion was dead wrong and said Australians would be horrified at the thought of rewriting history.

At Hyde Park, passers by said while they sympathised with the Aboriginal cause, defacing public property was the wrong way to go about seeking change.

“It’s a terrible shame that the Australians lost this land...but defacing a statue is the wrong thing to do, it’s disrespectful and there are better ways to get your point across,” said Marjorie Taylor of Darlinghurst said.

Face it, the US is a mess.

BTW Trump was right about both sides contributing to the fracas the other day.

Talk about media control and denial and idiotic politicians.

I'm afraid you're right.

It's a country in deep doo doo. I can only put it down to having several generations of people who have binged on the trivialities of life, celebrity culture, fads & fashions and whatall, so that they no longer know what's important, what or how to teach their kids, where they are heading.
They once had good values & vision as a nation, many of them still do, but not enough.

Thanks, we don't teach our children real history anymore.

Not sure that we ever did.

Bring on the apologists who say that Culture Wars are acceptable and righteous from the 'left' but never from the 'right' who happen to object to being man-handled in that way....

Wonder when the Citizens Committee For State Security will set up a tent city around those statues, to keep the vandals away.... few carefully placed cameras.... well placed sniper teams.... soon put a stop to that...

this is one of the reasons that I'll vote NO to fag marriage ...

now that they think they have got it done and dusted... the Queers and Leftwits will only move onto something else to Bully Australians with...

just like we are seeing in the US... its like the Aussie leftwits are following what they do...

so they bully us into Queer Marriage ..

then it'll be pulling down the statues..

then we are not allowed to discuss issues like Muslim Terrorist without being dragged to a court of law...

it just doesn't end..

then they'll introduce brain washing for children so that they think LGBTABCDRET is normal... alone with paedophillia..

oh wait... they've already started doing that..  Undecided

I suppose when some group organises a protest meeting at those statues to keep them there and intact, the clown show will label them 'white supremacists' or neo-NAZIs'.... and the loonies will be forming groups to attack them.

Will that idiot Clover Moore and that other idiot Stan Grant stand up and accept responsibility for the first death over this nonsense?

Sack Grant and send in the troops to arrest Moore and turf Sydney City Council... send in the administrators... cheaper to run that way anyway...

Someone defacing a pigeon-poop encrusted statue of queen victoria is not going to keep me awake at night.
You want me to care?
Was she an inspiration to future generations by her deeds? An example of sacrifice or courage, tolerance or toil?
Spare me.
An obsequious politician put her statue there, but paid for by others.
History? Not every antique is valuable.

No pride in genocide the grafiti says.

But what about the poor race, (the ones that was far advanced to the abbos who tilled the soil and made the fish farms) that were mercellessly murdered by the abbos, Dont they get a say?

Karma is a shite.

Abbos murdered the first Australians and now

They are simply dying out from being incapable of advancing themselves.
