Secularism doesn't equate to no religion on television.
What's next, banning Bewitched ?
Bewitched is understood by everyone to be light fictional entertainment. But of course you knew that, so I take that as sarcasm without a point.
Swaggart is professing that which cannot be proven, as if it were truth, and practicing hypocrisy at the same time. His appeal is to those who have not been able to develop any critical thinking. Something needs to be done about it, or soon you will see all these ratbags preaching their twaddle as if it were truth.
Religions should be tolerated, not given the credit on par with the social system that allows their tolerance. If society was left to any one religion, they would do the others in. Take a look at the history of religion.
Our secular institutions need to be nourished. They will not be here to protect cultural or religious tolerance if we equate secularism with the bogus mystical mumbo-jumbo and superstitions that compete with each other and system that protects them.
Of course, if they really want to believe what they preach, they could shut up and go away and believe it, but they need confirmation by getting others to support them.
Australians need to be aware of the way secularism is being eroded, and Swaggart style TV is part of the process.
