Australia is an awesome country and everything that's great about it is a direct result of the mix of people that colonized the place.

Aboriginals should get down on their knees and give thanks they were colonized/modernised but the best of the best.

It was going to happen anyway, they're lucky they got the best.

If they want to know what a true genocide is all about they should  go ask the East Timorese or the West Papuans and pray to what ever bullsh1t god they believe in and thank their luck stars they weren't invaded by indonesia.

Your argument is that they should be happy with the treatment they got because it could have been worse.

Would you say the same if someone took your lands off you?

Yeah, I do tend to be thankful that things did not get worse, must that I,m a glass half full kinda bloke.  Smiley Smiley

Like I said ask the East Timorese or the West Papuans how they feel about their situation under a real organised genocide.

somehow I don't believe you when you say if someone took your land you'd be thankful that it wasn't worse.

You do nothing but cry that the Qld govt. takes your northern tax dollars, why aren't you thankful that it's not worse?

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
I understand why you'd be for the changes. Being Italian and all. Many of us have been here 6 generations and our history is important to us.

A Melbourne Inner City Council
has rejected Australia Day in reconciliation of it also being an 'Invasion' Day to other Australians.
It will still be given 'Public Holiday' status though.

I think this is a good idea.
Considering that Australia Day has been somewhat of a 'vague' cultural experience of people just waving the Flag around and wearing clothing with the Flag on it.
I was about to call it 'VEXIOLOGY' Day.  Roll Eyes

Other than that - the only thing I saw of Australia Day was families having picnics and the usual multi-cultural festivals run by councils in the parks.
A celebration of everyone except the Aboriginals 'day'.

So good on the Melbournian Council for stepping up the challenge to Australia to have a day that means more than just waving a Flag around.

I'm responding to this as the first post is all I have read ... & no doubt someone through out the pages will have touched on this .....

but local govt  i.e. Councils are not a platform for for wanker Councilors to drive social & political agendas.

Councilors are elected to ensure council delivers services to rate payers at the lowest possible cost, see to the maintenance of parks & gardens, local roads etc.

If these idiots want to push political & social agendas then nominate for state & federal politics.

Local Councils are no place for this shyte.  >:

lets remove Capt Cook statue while we are at it....

lets appease a small group of dissenters who seem to me will never be satisfied no matter what whitey does. Angry

Good Idea. Remove a statue that represents the invasion force, and erect a monument to 60,000 years of continual culture.

Perhaps a new national park.

What an imbecile.

You'd look good hanging upside down from your bollocks.

they most likely have and got rejected...

but not wanting to let go their delusions of grandeur ...

they sneak into local councils (with a hidden agenda) and when they get the numbers BAM...

they start pulling sheet like this...

they need to be sacked and thrown out for wasting time and money of rate payers and dereliction of duty to the rate payers...

Gonads....you have to put it in context.

1.  The Federal Government conferred capacity on local government Mayors/delegates to perform Citizenship ceremonies (which need not happen on Australia Day by the way so far as I know.)

2.  This Council has said.....'No, even though we can do it....we decline.'

Simple as that and who should give a stuff?  I'm sure I don't.

The welfare money is derived from stolen land.
So the money is derived from invasion crimes.

Nothing for the white nationalists to be proud of.

So does that mean you ought farg off out of Australia?

... & the country be restored to pre- 1770 demographics?

There is no concept of ownership of land in Aboriginal culture.

It's connection to/belonging to land.
