Australia/Invasion Day - rejected.

A Melbourne Inner City Council
has rejected Australia Day in reconciliation of it also being an 'Invasion' Day to other Australians.
It will still be given 'Public Holiday' status though.

I think this is a good idea.
Considering that Australia Day has been somewhat of a 'vague' cultural experience of people just waving the Flag around and wearing clothing with the Flag on it.
I was about to call it 'VEXIOLOGY' Day. Roll Eyes

Other than that - the only thing I saw of Australia Day was families having picnics and the usual multi-cultural festivals run by councils in the parks.
A celebration of everyone except the Aboriginals 'day'.

So good on the Melbournian Council for stepping up the challenge to Australia to have a day that means more than just waving a Flag around.

I can see their problem the fact there are few to no aboriginals in inner city mebourne it would be difficult to place them on the pedistal they so richly deserve.

Maybe they could spend a few years in Darwin, Townsville or Cairns to get a true understanding of how great they are to have around in large numbers.

Jeez how needy can one group of people get?

The Council looked like they had rounded up all the freak shows in town and dumped them in the Council Chambers

Australia Day IS 26TH JANUARY and it is all inclusive including our black brothers

I really do not see this doing anything at all to change anyones life......just like the sorry speech nothing changes....nothing is resolved....

I am fed up with minority groups being the ones we must keep "happy" what about the rest of us! Angry

I cant see where it does a thing for reconciliation... Sad

for me its one big turn off.

Good Idea. Remove a statue that represents the invasion force, and erect a monument to 60,000 years of continual culture.

Perhaps a new national park.
