My favourite Sinatra lyrics
Aug 13th, 2017 at 2:20pm

A different kind of poetry but just as worthy . ..

Nancy (with the laughing face)

If I don't see her each day I miss her
Gee, what a thrill each time I kiss her
Believe me I've got a case
On Nancy with the laughin' face

She takes the winter and makes it summer
Summer could take some lessons from her
Picture a tomboy in lace
That's Nancy with the laughin' face

Have you ever heard mission bells ringin'?
Well, she'll give you the very same glow
When she speaks you would think it was singin'
Just hear her say "hello"

I swear to goodness you can't resist her
Sorry for you, she has no sister
No angel could replace
Nancy with the laughin' face

\Keep Betty Grable, Lamour, and Turner
She makes my heart a charcoal burner
No angel could replace
My Nancy with the laughin' face

(Words & music by Jimmy van Heusen & Phil Silvers
Delivery by The Voice)

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

The summer wind came blowin' in
From across the sea
It lingered there to touch your hair
And walk with me

All summer long, we sang a song
And then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts
And the summer wind

Like painted kites
Those days and nights
they went flyin' by

The world was new
Beneath a blue
umbrella sky
Then softer than a piper man
One day it called to you
I lost you, I lost you
To the summer wind

The autumn wind and the winter winds
They have come and gone
And still the days, those lonely days
They go on and on

And guess who sighs his lullabies
Through nights that never end
My fickle friend, the summer wind
The summer wind,
warm summer wind,
the summer wind

(English lyrics by Johnny Mercer)

There's no you

I feel the autumn breeze
It steals cross my pillow
As soft as a will-o'-the-wisp
And in its song there is sadness because
There's no you

The lonely autumn trees
How softly they're sighing
For summer is dying they know
That in my heart there's no gladness because
There's no you

The park that we walked in
The garden we talked in
How lonesome they seem in the fall
The stormy clouds hover and falling leaves cover
Our favorite nook in the wall

In spring we'll meet again
We'll kiss and recapture
The summertime rapture
We knew
And from that day never more will I say
There's no you

The stormy clouds hover and falling leaves cover
Our favorite nook in the wall

In spring we'll meet again
We'll kiss and recapture
The summertime rapture
We knew
And from that day never more will I say
There's no you

(Music by Hal Hopper from a Rachmaninov theme, Words by Tom Adair)

I really liked Sinatra's interpretation of the songs he sang.

Sinatra had a great voice & exceptional timing.

You're a man of taste and musical perception Bobby.

Maybe you'll be there

Each time i see a crowd of people
Just like a fool i stop and stare
It's really not the proper thing to do
But maybe you'll be there

I go out walking after midnight
Along the lonely thoroughfare
It's not the time or place
To look for you
But maybe you'll be there

You said your arms would always hold me
You said you lips were mine alone to kiss
Now after all those things you told me
How can it end like this

Someday if all my prayers are answered
I'll hear a footstep on the stair
With anxious heart
I'll hurry to the door
And maybe you'll be there

(Music by Reuben (Rube) Bloom, Lyrics by Sammy Gallop)
