It's not merely about their right to get married ....

that's all it's about ... everything else, like altering the wording of the act, is just an excuse. Did you whinge when Howard altered the wording so as to prevent gay marriages?
Any other traditions you like to see changed now that we are going down that road muppet?

probably heaps if we get into it. Traditions last only as long as they are socially acceptable. They used to have a tradition where good christian women covered their faces ..... are you suggesting we bring that back?
What about traditions that involved non white people?

That's the thing with traditions, everyone has theirs .... you follow your traditions, they theirs.

Or are you demanding everyone follow your traditions?
Live and let live hey. Now why are you lefties trying to  change the definition of marriage in Australia again?

Lefties? you realise the whole gay marriage thing isn't so much left v's right, right? I'm trying to change it because the current regulations don't allow you to live and let live. They discriminate against a certain group of people and treat them as second rate citizens.
Marriage doesn't discriminate  against gays. The definition is for men and women. People have traditions that fit certain groups of people the world over and that doesn't mean it's discrimination. It's just what it is. Gays should make up their own ceremony. Gayriage?? How's that?

Yep. It's comes in a few forms. Most socialists are for egalitarian societies. A 6 million dollar socialist seems a bit funny to me. What do you think Mothra?

of course it does. Besides, tradition shouldn't have anything to do with LAW. legislation should apply equally to everybody, regardless of tradition

Hammer, are you hinging your entire argument against SSM on the principle that traditions shouldn't change?

I'm always amazed how Musicians, Actors, etc - who don't really make an impact here, suddenly hit it off over in America and suddenly we have to accept that they are 'great' and we should all love them.

I believe some shouldn't. Marriage is one. I bet you'd defend abos to the death if I suggested spearing punishments should be abolished?

Same old same old, from the Usual suspects...  ridicule and stupidity abounds in the Prog Left.

They start topics they cant even debate.

Quote:
An issue put to the vote which does not affect the Constitution is called a plebiscite. A plebiscite is not defined in the Australian Constitution, the Electoral Act or the Referendum Act. A plebiscite can also be referred to as a simple national vote.

Governments can hold plebiscites to test whether people either support or oppose a proposed action on an issue. The government is not bound by the 'result' of a plebiscite as it is by the result of a Constitutional referendum. Federal, state and territory governments have held plebiscites on various issues.

The anti-democracy mob (ALP, GREENS, NXT and HINCH) crueled any chance of SSM getting up earlier this year.  It is they who have done this not the Coalition.

Homophobia is not an issue and most Australians aren't homophobic, unless you've been lying about the majority support for SSM in Australia Mothra.

Even so there are more reasons to keep Marriage as it is than change it for a handful of people, who don't need it. Cheesy

So you think, seeing as marriage is all about tradition, we should marry girls off at 12?

Or is it okay that that bit changed?
