Fact: women in the Aussie music scene are grossly under-represented.

The University of Sydney Business School has found that women in the Australian music industry are paid less than their male counterparts, their music is played less and there's a lack of women on the boards of decision making bodies.

Associate Professor Rae Cooper tells Raf Epstein her report 'Skipping a beat: Assessing the state of gender equality in the Australian music industry' paints a dire picture.

Not many women play instruments or compose music. Most just sing somebody else's song. That's probably why.

I think its more likely that the paying audience is brainless young females.

And they are not so interested in female singers

Since men live 4.5 years less than females we should adjust wages thus.

Working life 45 years, as men live 4.5 years less I think the starting point should be men earning 10% more than women.

Plus men should be retiring 4.5 years earlier than women.

Toward sport reform: hegemonic masculinity and reconceptualizing competition

Colleen English
Pages 183-198 | Published online: 13 Mar 2017

Abstract

Hegemonic masculinity, a framework where stereotypically masculine traits are over-emphasized, plays a central role in sport, partly due to an excessive focus on winning. This type of masculinity marginalizes those that do not possess specific traits, including many women and men. I argue sport reform focused on mitigating hypercompetitive attitudes can reduce this harmful and marginalizing hegemonic masculinity in sport. I make this argument first by challenging the dichotomous nature of sport, especially in recognizing that all outcomes are a blend of winning and losing, that ties are relevant and informative outcomes to contests, and that winning and losing do not always tell accurate stories of the outcome. Secondly, I contend that expanding the potential outcomes in sport can help broaden the emphasis of competitive sport to take into account playing well and improving, in terms of both the test and the contest. I conclude that these reforms decrease hegemonic masculinity, making sport better for all.

Soon it will be 'heteronormative, fallocentric bigotry' to be competitive in sport and elsewhere.

Artistic excellence has been trashed already, sport is next.

Well considering that women in Music in North America & Australia are a lot less self-destructive/abusive, than their male counterparts.

Well considering its pretty much the same for women in Sport in these two regions.

I think the males are over-paid and the females are under-paid. The females in Music & Sport are two good examples in North America & Australia ...that show and exhibit more 'professionalism' than males.

Anyone wanna drown in their vomit in a bathtub or get videoed molesting a dog during a party? Just ask the guys.  Roll Eyes

The researcher had an agenda and modified her methodology to get the outcome she was looking for
Its a total fraud and we should not be spending research money on trash like that

Indeed.

You make money in the music industry by writing songs.

It's all about the royalties.

John Farnham doesn't write his songs, and that's why he has to keep touring.

I'm struggling to think of any female songwriters in this country.

That is, women who write songs for other people to perform.
