Elvis had a good voice and was a twerker 60 years before anyone else.

It was those pelvic thrusts that propelled him into the limelight and eternal fame.

Elvis was the best.

Have you listened to any of his albums ?
I was genuinely surprised by his abilities when I first really heard him.

He sang a lot of good songs with a nice mellow voice that didn't grate on the nerves as so many singers of today do.

Yes. It's just that i've never met a musician who refer's to the Beatles as "mediocre".

And?

I have met a bunch of old non-musicians who think they are excellent, they were on constant FM Radio during the 80s, which built my hatred for their music. But like I said, just because they are popular (or were), doesn't mean they were any good.

They were just popular,as were a lot of sh1t musicians over the years.

Nothing to get concerned about, it's just excellent marketing overcoming mediocrity.

The greats become greats for a reason- and Beatles also fall into that category

Even early Beatles, a lot of it not to my taster, was still genius. And entirely groundbreaking.

And some of their early songs i love to bits.

You're absolutely right. And the reason even their early songs impressed (like I Wanna Hold Your Hand) is that they branched out radically in melodic & harmonic terms from anything that had gone before in popular music and grabbed the attention even of musicians from other genres.

PS but don't get me started or I'll rave on forever

Elvis has never been to my taste, but I appreciate him as he did push the societal and music boundaries of the day.

The Beatles tho, come on. Apart from a few of their yeah yeah yeah songs most is brilliant.

John Lennon was a scumbag though. I read his ex wife's book a while back and the way he treated his first family was atrocious. Yoko sold a bunch Lennon's  possessions to his son Julian. What sort of person does that??

Musical taste is quite subjective, however, musicianship can be viewed objectively (to a certain degree).

For example, a drummer that can't keep time wouldn't be widely regarded as a good musician.

Similarly, a guitarist with poor intonation would probably be heavily criticised.

Ringo kept excellent time, though, and George's intonation was just beautiful. Listen to his slide playing and string bending.

You might not like their music, which is fine, but to call them sh!t musicians shows extreme ignorance.

Tell us BigHole: who are some of your favourite musicians/bands?

Its totally understandable that most men are jealous of him- he was hands down the most beautiful man I have ever seen- and I don't consider many celebs praiseworthy in any way-but Elvis was different ! He was beautiful and he knew it- but thats ok!

Even placing E Costello in the same sentence is blasphemy GP-
