Now they've killed a driver here

Police say the death of a driver in Sydney was probably due to a Takata airbag sending shrapnel through his neck.

And you'll remember the s.o.b.s have gone bankrupt.

Don't ignore a product recall if you get one, your life could be at risk.

I imagine there is probably still a massive stockpile of these things around the world and who's to say they won't keep using them.

They'll surface in some of your cut price cars.... end up in the Third World where drivers are expendable... as expendable as the passengers on the roof of the trains are.... smokey class passengers....

Death is nature's way of telling you to slow down.

It's OK. The dead person was a Muslim.

Muslims hate these defective airbags and Bogarde73 loves the defective air bags because Muslims hate them.

That makes perfect sense, Forgiven. Bogie loves defective old bags.

Not you, Cods.

Ignoring the two pieces of filth above and moving on.

I refer to the OP. I must have had a vision about this.
Reported by SMH Business today that Choice has discovered car makers in Oz HAVE been replacing faulty airbags with faulty airbags.

Five makers incl Honda & Mazda have admitted it.Nissan and one other refuse to say.

Great isn't it. You're driving round feeling at least the airbag has been fixed and they've given you another dodgy one.

Bastards!

I'm surprised nobody seems interested in the latest news on this scandal which probably involves all of us.

I can only think of two scenarios.
One is the Takata stockpile is all there is.
The other is they know that the average Joe won't take them to court.
Oh, and there's your option - there are crazy people in charge.

they should have sent any stock pile back and gotten a refund for them as soon as they were aware of a problem.

The first time I can understand that the car manufacturer is not to blame. However when they knowingly replace a faulty airbag with another faulty one, then these companies need to be fined big time, and the people who instructed such action should probably go to jail.

It shows a blatant disregard for the customers life.

It isn't quite so dramatic.

The airbag problem only occurs after a number of years - basically new airbags are good, while older airbags may have the problem. The most danger appears to be after 5+ years

Given the shortage of airbag units, some makers opted to use new takata airbags, knowing that they still have the problem and, while safe to use in the short term, would need to be replaced again before they also get old and present a danger.

The alternative was not providing a replacement airbag at all, which either means the driver cops the risk of a face full of metal or stops driving the car.
