$89 Kmart Vac better than Dyson
Jul 18th, 2017 at 9:38am

The $89 vacuum cleaner that people claim is better than a Dyson

A GOOD vacuum really sucks — and to find one that adequately picks up the trail of disaster left behind by a family can be a long, expensive mission.

It’s not uncommon to fork out $1000 for a vacuum with good suction — and the brand often thrown around as the holy grail of this humble household appliance is Dyson.

...
Is this Dyson really worth $700

However, savvy shoppers believe they may have found the next best thing — if not the best thing — at their local Kmart.

And it sells for just $89, according to Kidspot.

It’s the 1200W Upright Vacuum — and if the ‘dirt pics’ being uploaded to Facebook are anything to go off, it appears to be revolutionising the definition of “clean”.

“For those who know me I’m a clean freak and vac twice a day with my Dyson stick and then once a week with the upright Dyson,” one mum shared in an online mums group.

“The carpets always look clean, but I vacuumed yesterday with the upright Dyson then I did it straight after with the new Kmart Vac … OMG I felt horrified but so satisfied all at the same time!”

Another mum shared that she had broken her $2000 vacuum, and had bought the Kmart one to use until she got it fixed — and she may never switch back after the thorough clean her carpets got.

She uploaded the photo below, sharing, “Brought the Kmart vacuum I’ve seen everyone love on! Fair to say I was shocked and grossed out after I used it today!”

It’s fast gathering a cult online following — and even a mother with a cleaning business is thinking of “upgrading” to a Kmart vacuum … which leads us to question, “What’s the catch?”

Looking over the comments, some people have pointed out that the vacuum’s cord should be longer and that it can be a bit heavy to manoeuvre — but for $89 everyone seems happy to overlook these “problems” for its carpet purging capabilities.

Dyson's all suck. Belt breaks: have to go to a Dyson dealer; filter replacement: Dyson dealer only. Need any type of a Dyson part? That's right, a god damn Dyson dealer only - at twice the price, of course.

It's working quite well, too.

I had a look on Kmart's website, and there's only one store in WA that has it in stock.

My son showed me this last night and I am tempted to buy one.  If it isn't as good as they say KMart will always take it back.  The price is certainly right and it is supposed to be excellent for pet hair.

I love the story behind Dyson and how it was a hard slog to get where it is today. But eventually, it conquered the industry completely and now probably lays the 'dirt' on too thickly or has become complacent for lack of competitors.

I bought an Industrial Pullman back-vac. I used it for work in Construction (it made $40 for daily use) - though you must be careful of all that plasterboard dust not to 'cement' inside your bag. I use it at home with a side-shoot clear canister, that accumulates 95% of what it picks up - leaving the bag in the main filter in need of less emptying/replacing. It's strong, its effective and does the same as a Dyson. I paid $300 for it.
I've been cleaning in nearly every job I do. Nothing to do? Instead of standing around like a bludger - I start cleaning.
Maybe I am OCD ...but I just get paid for it  Wink

Dyson = excellent product, but a very rude and arrogant price now.

I don't see why not.  You just adjust the head for either carpet or smooth floors I would imagine.

I have an ols sanyo vac, mum gave it to me when it started to make screaming noises about 25 years ago.

I use it to vac out tge cars, boat and garage.

I stripped it down and put some grease on the bearings and lo and behold, noise stopped.

Its the garage vac, we have since purchased three other vacs for the house.
But if sanyo ever build another one Ill buy it.

Why did your mum start to make screaming noises?
