Never pay the slightest attention ...
Jul 16th, 2017 at 10:14am

.. when someone tells you he is an 'expert' and has had years of experience, and you have "nothing to fear" because he's done this all before countless times ... blah blah blah.

All bullshit.

All vanity and chest-beating macho bullshit.

Over the years I've read of countless numbers of 'experienced experts' ending up in coffins with mangled or dismembered bodies because "something went terribly wrong, and we're still investigating ... blah blah blah ... " yeah, right.

Skydiving ... motor-boat racing ... ballooning ... base-jumping ... bungee-jumping ... scuba-diving ... water-kiting ... Game Park touring ... abseiling ... hang-gliding ... Human Cannon Ball circus act ... snow-boarding/skiing ... 'tame' lion or bear petting with a reassuring private zoo owner ... Fair Ground equipment routinely checked for safety ...

All bullshit on steroids. Big time.

link

When you're time is up ~ it's up, and no amount of cocky assurances from some aging arsehole is going to save you from that.

Jesus.

You can prepare as much as you like, but there is ALWAYS that liddle-bitty 'accident' that happens one day to cancel your ticket, and it so often concerns tangled cords and ropes.

Lovely young ladies got separately killed just recreationally horse-riding in Country NSW just a couple of years ago.

Although skydiving is high risk, I put it in the worth the risk category because it really is that good. Doing something mundane and dangerous life rock fishing, I don't get Smiley

That's a good debating topic. I was born paranoid with the belief that 'God' or 'Them' in the spiritual world find it amusing to bugger me up at those special moments when I am most vulnerable.

So-called 'accident-prone' when in fact it's the Gods deliberately and mischievously tweaking circumstances to see me go tumbling on a highly painful or even terminal course.

I can certainly understand the thrill of rock-fishing, but what I can't understand is why these Asians don't wear Life-Jackets.

I have never understood sky diving.

To me its like jumping out of a boat just to see if the life jacket works.

WHy would anybody even reasonably sane jump out of a perfectly good plane?

Now rock fishing, at least there's a reward at the end of that endeavour.

Each to their own. Some people want or need the thrill of extreme sports, I dont skydive but Ive indulged in some reckless behaviour resulting in injury in the past in pursuit of the adrenaline rush.

I don't understand it -
they always have a second parachute -
an emergency chute -
it's very small but it's enough to save your life.

What's needed is a bungee string to the plane for back-up. Pilots need to check the user has disconnected the rope after say 20 seconds .

Strings, cords, and ropes ... so often a fatally tangled mess.

And then someone parachutes onto your own parachute canopy.

Maybe - it just shouldn't happen.

Of all the things I've tried skydiving is by far the biggest buzz and your mind is blown for weeks. However,  it takes next to no skill so lacks the reward you get from accomplishment.

Sailboarding in huge surf ranks as the hardest thing and biggest buzz.

No it's better when you put your head on the track and watch the train wheels get bigger.
