Yassmin Abdel-Magied describes herself as ‘the most publicly hated Muslim in Australia’

YASSMIN Abdel-Magied has described herself as “the most publicly hated Muslim in Australia” following her infamous Anzac Day tweet.

YASSMIN Abdel-Magied has written a passionate essay describing herself as “the most publicly hated Muslim in Australia” in which she details the toll three months of attack have taken on her.

The former ABC presenter announced this week that she was leaving Australia for London, after her controversial Anzac Day post - in which she wrote, “Lest. We. Forget (Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine ...)” - led to, three months of what she described as, “90,000 twisted words written about me ... largely laced with hate”.

The months of vitriol hurled her way have taken their toll on the 26-year-old, she wrote in The Guardian.

“Do I reveal that ... I get death threats on a daily basis, and I have to reassure my parents that I will be fine, when maybe I won’t be,” she wrote.
“That I’ve resorted to moving house, changing my phone number, deleting my social media apps.

oh boo hoo...  Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Quote:
Among those to welcome the move was Immigration Minister Peter Dutton,

who accused the national broadcaster of having a “cultural problem”.

“One down, many to go,” he told Sydney radio station 2GB in the wake of the announcement.

Ms Abdel-Magied announced earlier this week she was moving to London, describing it as an “Aussie rite of passage”.

I saw this coming. According to the left, you cannot criticise any woman, otherwise you are sexist. You cannot criticise any black person, otherwise you are racist. You cannot criticise any homosexual person, otherwise you are homophobic. You cannot criticise any Muslim, otherwise you are Islamophobic. The thing is, conservatives don't actually define people by labels. Conservatives aren't that narrow-minded, and view people on a level playing field and criticise what is said, not what is said because it was said by a woman or some minority group.

Either that or they simply have no comeback so just deliberately play the "insert" card because that's their only resort.

This woman is a complete and utter nasty little bitch. I don't care that she's black, or a woman or Muslim. It's that she mocked all the ANZACs who fought and died for Australia and New Zealand. Any true patriotic Aussie or Kiwi is rightly offended and disgusted by those despicable comments that she made. Wink

Seriously? Good to know matty. She's just a bitch, not some other label, and it has nothing to do with her being a woman. I think I'm starting to warm to you but I don't like the label you put on yourself "conservative christian" so I'll hold back for now. Roll Eyes

I don't like her either but it's because she is an up herself egoist. Is that a label?

I don't think she's hateful OR an egotist - just as thick as two Ethiopians laid end to end... and she simply is not in tune with OUR culture (yet).... fair's fair....

Pity she had to leave before actually learning how to live here instead of Sudan... she might have had something to contribute if trained properly.....

I doubt she will do much better in England.... they are more active than we are in rejecting all these oddball groups and their oddball ideas.... now consider WHY that should be so....

I don't think that's quite true - she was making a comparison, not mocking... and the point is not so invalid when it comes to suffering and such.......

There is no comparison at all, she like so many others socialist females choose to make outrageous statements or actions for the sole purpose of gaining notoriety.

Problem is for her we tend to have a  pretty low tolerance for some idiot blow-in throwing a bit of sh1t around just to make herself look more important that she is.

Mind you quite a few scumbags in this country do have a deep hatred for the ADF and its predecessors, so she should fit right in to certain circles.

But any time a fkking muslim leaves this country it only benefits us as a whole.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Its farcical to claim the moral high ground on behalf of 'conservatives' here matty. You lot have been mounting a vile campaign against her in which attacking her identity as both black and muslim have been front and centre. In regards to the anzac tweet, we know she has been singled out for special treatment because last year on Anzac ay a (white male) liberal MP shamelessly sought to exploit that sacred day for political gain - viz negative gearing. Were there the same howls of rage from the right? Of course not.

Moreover, she didn't make any despicable comments.

Hey Gandy, ever heard of Scott McIntyre.
Instant dismissal, but don't let that spoil your narrative.

Soccer reporter Scott McIntyre, who has a Twitter following of 30,000 people, shocked followers with a post which implied that Australians commemorating Anzac Day were “poorly-read ... drinkers and gamblers”.

He began his tirade about 5pm, calling Australia’s involvement in the World Wars an “imperialist invasion of a foreign nation”.

Later tweets read: “Wonder if the poorly-read, largely white, nationalist drinkers and gamblers pause today to consider the horror that all mankind suffered.”

Hey Gandy, ever heard of Scott McIntyre.
Instant dismissal, but don't let that spoil your narrative.

Easy for Gordon.

Start with some racism, mix in a generous serving of Islamophobia, and then top it all off with a sprinkling of misogyny.

Voilà!

What is everyone's problem her Tweet?

Is it that she politicised ANZAC Day with a Tweet?

And if the appropriate course of action is her leaving the country?

That's because there IS nothing wrong with it.

The truth of the matter is, it all boils down to misogyny and Islamophobia.

The neanderthals who are complaining just don't like the idea of a Muslim woman even mentioning the word 'ANZAC'.

Their twisted, bigoted pea-brains can't handle it.

The biggest problem I have with this whole debacle is the same crowd of people calling for her head DEFENDED this back on ANZAC Day 2011 from the then Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Jim Wallace tweeted,

...

So forgive me if their outrage seems 100% manufactured and utter bullshit.

She's just a soft target for their bigoted cause and copped so much abuse she had to leave.

If that's the appropriate response then I demand Jim Wallace be kicked out too.

And even the thread title is bizarre.  Her tweet was about having compassion for those that she was trying to remember.  Where is the hate in that?

Idiot bloody Australians being idiot bloody Australians.  It's shameful to be tarred with the same brush as them.

1. Don't use a slogan designed so people never forget our war dead as a political tool
2. Don't knock a system that gave you so much. Fa rk off back to Sudan if you don't like it here you ungrateful bitch.
3. Islam is the most feminist religion comment. WTF!
4. Going ballistic on  one of our elected politicians on air . Very disrespectful.
5. And that Sharia Law bulls hit she sprouted.

Plus a bunch of other comments that litter social media.

Even if all of that is true (which much isn't), you're also in the group who stand up for the like of Milo Yiannopoulos and lose your mind when people try to prevent him from speaking at function claiming the snowflakes on the left are anti-free speech, and now you've gone and done the exact same thing.

This is quintessential modern-day racism. Keep putting the tinted people in their place by constantly reminding them of the gifts our superior culture has bestowed upon them - and constantly advising (threatening) them to go back to where they came from.

That Jim Chalmers quote was an absolute ripper. And anyone who doesn't get all hot and bothered over that in the same way as they get hot and bothered over Yassmin's tweet is an absolute hypocrite.

I'll respond to myself then. Yassmin is from Sudan. Sudan is hell on earth. It's an absolute s hithole. Now Australia lets her settle here with her family. For years she gets to live in a nice house, medical treatment, a uni education, a full belly everyday, safety etc etc. If that was me I'd say thank you in some way everyday. But all we get from her is-oh the government doesn't represent me blah blah blah. Hence comes the expression - well fa rk off back to Sudan  if you don't like it here. Understand! The idiot didn't like Lambie having a go at Sharia  (which bloody deserves some criticism) yet can't take it herself.

Are you saying that people who were born in other countries have no right to criticise anything about this country at all?

They're just supposed to be eternally thankful and never make any comment?

I've got ancestors that came out in the potato famine. Am i allowed to comment?

In any event, to a thinking person, criticism of your country is actually an act of patriotism. You don;'t have to like everything and you're more than entitled to say so.

Well dear, many Australian many people who have been out here for 6 plus generations are really struggling and this spoilt tv personality has nothing good to say. Do you see how that might get up some unemployed battling aussies nose? Does she really have the right to whinge when people who's ancestors fought in the wars are now  on the poverty line?

This.

The "gratitude" that hammer demands of her is expressed in the way she exercises her democratic right (duty?) to speak out against perceived injustices. If we were to put it in Hammer's terms, not having a voice and not standing up for what you believe is right - would be to "import" the mindset and culture that oppressed people have in places like Sudan. Believing that she should behave like she would have to behave in Sudan (and in stark contrast with expected behaviour in Australia) would be exactly the sort of "non-assimilationism" that Hammer so bemoans.

Indeed. Hammer's position is not only untenable, it is truly mysterious.

That is, of course, if it were not simply a facade for racism, Islamophobia and misogyny.

Do you understand what Sharia Law means to her Hammer? And what she means by Sharia Law?

Do you understand how she reconciles her feminism with Islam and argues saliently that it is in theory more representative of women's rights than other main stream religions?

Have you actually sought to understand what she is saying?

In the world right now people are being killed by their government. The horror around the world right now is very alarming. That's worthy of criticism. Particularly in the muslim world. Her criticism is something about the government not representing her???? Petty vague s hit. Obviously she doesn't like the white nationalism that sprouts at ANZAC Day time. Under some forms of Sharia CRIMINAL law, yes they do.

Sharia CRIMINAL law is not widely used. There is certainly no suggestion of it being brought into this country and it is most definitely not what Yassmin was referring to.

So the Sharia Law she went ballistic over at Lambie was the good Sharia Law??And it is widely used. Parts of Sharia are used all over the world and some countries use all of it. For instance- Muslim woman are not allowed to marry outside their faith. That's Sharia Law (law from the Koran). Islam uses quite a bit of Sharia.

Hammer, Sharia Law in essence is simply the moral and religious code Muslims live by. There is legal basis too but that usually just involves the settling of disputes, inheritence etc.

Things like praying 5 times a day and giving to charity are Sharia Law.

Some repressive regimes have implemented various human rights abusing punishments they are calling Sharia CRIMINAL law. These countries are human rights abusers on a number of fronts.

People like you and Lambie (and a large percentage of this forum) think that those punishments are what Sharia Law entails. They are not. That is what Yassmin was trying to tell Lambie, who wasn't hearing any of it. Most Muslims in the world do not live with those punishments but ALL Muslims adhere to Sharia Law.

Would you like a link? Or do you think you uderstand?

Gandalf, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Plenty of big mouthed culturally  uninformed blow ins also.

They aren't violent, and they don't attack innocent women.

But then, you already knew that.

What about all the women being raped by blow in taxi drivers?

Ah.

Change the subject.

That's a novel idea, Homo.

I'd be tempted to run over Yassmin Abdel-Magied, commentator says

A conservative commentator on Sydney’s 2GB radio station has joked about wanting to “run over” Yassmin Abdel-Mageid, after the Sudanese-Australian engineer detailed death threats and rape threats she had received while in Australia.

Former journalist Prue MacSween made the comments on 2GB’s Chris Smith show on Wednesday, on a segment called “Smithy’s Deplorables”– a reference to the nickname adopted by supporters of Donald Trump.

Abdel-Mageid left Australia for London last week, writing that she had become “Australia’s most hated Muslim” and received daily death threats and videos of beheadings and rapes after a post made on Anzac Day was seized on by conservative media.

MacSween told Smith Abdel-Mageid’s fears might be well-founded.

“She has fled the country and is blaming all of us”, MacSween said. “She says she’s been betrayed by Australia and didn’t feel safe in her own country. Well actually she might have been right there, because if I had seen her I would have been tempted to run her over mate.”

Smith responded by laughing heartily and agreeing that Abdel-Mageid, who apologised for her Anzac Day comments, was “not really sorry”.

Responding to critics on Twitter, MacSween defended her comments as humour and free speech and attacking critics as “festering, humourless ... ferals”.

She later told News.com.au that “it’s sad people have now lost their sense of humour, we used to celebrate larrikinism in this country, celebrate free speech and sadly that’s gone”.

But critics denounced MacSween’s comments as hypocritical and encouraging violence against Abdel-Mageid.

“So what exactly is your problem with Yassmin?” asked ABC Radio National presenter Mark Bevan. “Isn’t it just her exercising free speech too?”

Smith broadcast an apology on his show after listeners complained about the segment.

“I laughed over the top of it at the time so I didn’t hear exactly what she said,” he said. “Suffice to say it was meant in a light-hearted non-literal fashion and we’re hardly ever going to encourage people to run someone over ... If it’s upset people we apologise. That’s not what I would intend for her [Abdel-Mageid].”

In the original segment, MacSween also referred to Abdel-Mageid as a “flea” who was both “irrelevant and dangerous”.

“We don’t even give this flea a second thought anymore since she slinked away from this country in disgrace ... She’s quite irrelevant but she’s dangerous ... we’re actually one of the most tolerant [countries], so I’m glad she hates us.”

MacSween, a former radio host and contestant on Celebrity Apprentice Australia, has been a regular guest on Smith’s “Deplorables” segment, appearing since February.

Three of Smith’s last five segments have featured the same guest: Sky News presenter Rowan Dean, who on Sunday told Race Discrimination Commissioner Tim Soutphommasane to “go back to Laos”.

On Thursday Soutphommasane said there was “no place for this toxic hate” in response to the MacSween comments.

“It’s not ‘larrikinism’ when you revel in violent fantasies or compare people to vermin,” Soutphommasane said on Twitter.

Abdel-Mageid initially attracted the anger of News Corp and conservative commentators after she posted on Anzac Day: “Lest. We. Forget. (Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine…).”

Despite apologising, she said an estimated “90,000 twisted words” had been written about her in the three months since April.

The producer of the Chris Smith show and 2GB have been contacted for comment.

On Tuesday, a British aristocrat Rhodri Philipps was convicted in a London court after he offered money for someone to run over anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller.

Philipps posted on Facebook: “£5,000 for the first person to ‘accidentally’ run over this bloody troublesome first generation immigrant.”

Nah!
Freedom , or the principles thereof, dictate that all folk are equal and so your suggestion of swapping one for another merely perpetuates the harm.

It propulgates the idea that there is some 'measure'.. that could be applied.. (subjectively, I have no doubt), to solve the perceived issues which need to be recognised and addressed.

You CANNOT simply send them 'away' somewhere.. you must live with them.

All discussion is useful, in that some posts may assist to crystallize the view of the recipient reading it.

And so it is.

Smiley Kiss Kiss Smiley Smiley

Seriously..? The benefits are no doubt many.

I don't believe anyone has carried on like she's the return of Hitler....

she was taken to task over her deliberate timing to push her agenda on Anzac Day

she didn't like the criticism so played the victim/race card

for that she has been taken to task again

she continues to play the victim/race card

& has now run away like the self pitying person she is.

Thanks Australia for everything  Roll Eyes

she was only taken to task because she's muslim. Many people have used Anzac day to further their own agendas, absolutely NONE got the treatment she did for it.

Nah.. NAH!  Under Islam women have all rights to be treated as Islamic women.. no problems there at all.... I mean - what more could a woman want out of life than to be treated as a Muslim woman??? A bit Monty Python-esque, to be sure .... but still..

This thread is a perfect chance for women-haters to vent a bit of spleen. Her honesty re her beliefs just give them more fuel. Essentially her religion is irrelevant to these coves, its that she is a SHE.

The posters here would seem to be the sort that like to 'put the boot in' when their prey is on the ground.

Sure, they hate Muslims, but they hate women more. A Muslim woman!!???  sweetest target of all. Altho I knew one such who had a particular hate for Aboriginal women. Sad Angry

Don't get sucked in to this Muslim hating BS.

I get your reference...  it was said by an Imam  about western/westernized women, in Australia. You have a long memory for insults eh? I don't forget them, but they don't bother my consciousness any , either.  It takes all kinds to make the world.

THIS topic is particularly unpleasant because it singles out a young woman who spoke her mind, with passion. She didn't anticipate the outrage that would ensue, and that the furor caused her ACTUAL POINT to be overlooked or misunderstood.

We all have lessons to learn in life. For the posters here to continue to hound her over this is inapproppriate and hate-based.

Just look   Huh

I have no problem with what she said honestly and she was only exercising her freedom of speech.

I'm not fond of her for other reasons. There are many people I'm not fond of but I wouldn't call for them to leave the country.

Hmm, pulling teeth? Perhaps you missed my post on page two and in another thread where I said she was just exercising her freedom of speech, the same freedom of speech some here claim Bolt is persecuted for.

edit: I'm not a censor so I won't close the thread. Freedom of speech, init, that is where the value lies.

Would it be against the Rules if she were named in the title?

ISN'T  JUST the term  ...HATEFUL BITCH ....in this context, illegal,  in LAW. Isn't it a HATE CRIME.?

What would make this topic title and content, against OzPol Rules.?
........................................... It may be illegal in general legal terms so.....??

Personally I loathe and despise many posts made so far, and I DO wonder,.....wtf I can do about it, more than I have done so by these my comments??

Who cares about OzPol Rules.? or the Rule of Law.?

I wouldn't think so.

It's be against the rules if it was abusing another member.

Nothing you can or should do about it, just as there is nothing to be done about what she said. Freedom of speech goes both ways, you don't have to like it but no point whinging. FoS is not only for when you agree with it.

The WHINGERS are the males on here acting like the frikkin Spanish Inquisition.

I am saying the TITLE is AN invitation to abuse on the basis of gender and religion.

Got it?

I OBJECT TO this topic title and thread.

It seems you have NO IDEA about what I am talking about.

Islam is the most feminist religion? You must admit, that was a joke of a thing to say.

NB The TITLE  says  "...you Hateful Bitch.."

I believe her actual point was that Islam is the most feminist religion of them all. It was not ignored. It was rightly derided.

I'm not fond of her for other reasons. There are many people I'm not fond of but I wouldn't call for them to leave the country.

I never called for her to leave the country

stop talking shyte in the press, on social media & on TV  .... yes

stop getting taxpayer funds for OS junkets ... yes

She played the race & victim card

She chose to leave the country

Do I think she's welcome to ....yes

Did I mention her not letting the door hit her on the arze on the way out? ......  I believe I did.

Not saying that some whackos haven't posted that shyte on a social media forum somewhere.

And Devine as a conservative would have opinions that I probably wouldn't like .....

I'm not saying you have to like her, i'm not even sure I like her. What i don't agree with is the way she's been treated.
Stuart Roberts used anzac day to attack labors policy on negative gearing. I didn't see the numbnuts here going on about for 3 hours, let alone 3 months.
Right wingers used anzac day to attack Anne Aly, I don't even recall anyone here mentioning it, let alone carrying on about it for months

The conservative right seems to have no problem using Anzac day when it suits them, they only have a problem if anyone else dares say something on Anzac day ..

Why weren't they standing up for Anzac day every other time someone used it to further their agenda?
they're just as guilty of using Anzac day to further their own Islamophobic ideology as she is of using Anzac day to further her cause. Yet you only see fit to criticise one.

I used it at 12:31 pm today. And again yesterday. Are you now so oblivious you don't even recognise it? I have been trying to explain to you why there is such broad dislike for her, but you are so dedicated to pretending it is only about her ANZAC tweet (and "blatant Islamophobia") you didn't even notice.

What do you think this one is about John?

You accused me of putting words in your mouth. Did I misinterpret what you said? Do you think she deserves our respect? Don't be afraid of your own opinion now John.

I know why there is a dislike for her. It's not because she dared to mention Anzac day. After all, if that were the reason then everyone else who dared to use Anzac day for their own purposes would have received the same treatment.

The biggest difference as to why she was treated differently is that she is Islamic. And she dared to defend Islam.

We can't have that now, can we. Cheesy Cheesy

Tell me FD, did you see any real problem with her tweet?

I don't like her because she's an apologist and obscurantist for Islamism. She claims Islam is a feminist religion when it's exactly the opposite,  see the Saudi women are slaves for proof.

To suggest illegal asylum seeking country shoppers on Nauru or Manus deserve the same recognition or consideration as our returned & fallen servicemen do on Anzac Day is a load of bollocks.

There are 364 other days in the year where she could have Tweeted, Twittered & posted on social media or heaven forbid on TV where she actually worked.

Expects respect for her culture, religion & opinion but doesn't give the same in return.

Shoots from the lip, can't cop the criticism then chucks a hissy playing the victim & race card .... then taking her bat & ball & running off to London.

I didn't particularly care about the ANZAC tweet, thought it is typical of her BS.

If a non-Muslim came out with the same BS about Islam being the most feminine religion, they would also get derided, much as you do. Even more so if they were misusing government funds doing it. That is what really destroyed her reputation, and it is no wonder you will not touch it with a ten foot pole. Just keep chanting to  yourself that it is only about Islamophobia and the ANZAC tweet.

Is it because of your own Islamophobia that you now refuse to answer questions about whether she deserves our respect, despite the fact that you brought it up? Or are you special because you disrespect her for the right reasons?

that's because I don't give a sh1t what she said about feminism. I didn't really see where she was coming from but then again, I'm not an Islamic woman. Who are you to decide how she should feel about being an Islamic woman?

no, that's a personal choice. I've decided that since you make it a point to avoid answering questions most of the time, I'm going to do the same. This post is an exception.

I do however respect her right to voice her opinions without being personally vilified for them. Agree with her, disagree with her I really don't care. But debate the argument, not the person

Whose defence you leap to because people only criticise her because of Islamophobia, so long as you studiously ignore her BS about feminism. Tell us again about how you don't give a poo about things that plainly contradict your Islamophobia BS....

And doesn't she use her ideology to push her agenda when it suits?

It's not just about her being a Muslim & it's not about her race.

So what's left?

Yes indeed. You ask an elegant question.  AND make a fine point.

What IS left?

Simple.

She is an outspoken woman. This is NOT acceptable.

You do have a point there...

..... but I'd phrase it "some in this Country use their very sacrifice for freedom from fascism!!    Angry
to have their own little Nazi Party."......

It is a great historical truth that nations whose people rise up and divest themselves of despotic government, always return to that form of government themselves, and there is little to no difference between 'left' and 'right' despotic governments..... the core issue is who controls in the nation - the government at the will of the people or the people at the will of the government (think about it).

I've characterised this elsewhere as the eternal civil war between government and people.... at the moment we are seeing a resurgence of people power, headless and directionless and formless and composed of various dissenting and even increasingly 'underground' groups, often driven not by any solid ideology or theory and certainly not operating as a co-ordinated whole*, but simply acting out their dissent.

I fairly place many in the underground arms market(s) here in that category; unfortunately, of course, such a path leads into criminalism..... but one man's freedom fighter is another man's criminal.... ask any Aboriginal youth about that in their permanent state of rebellion ...... such do not view themselves as criminals, but more as 'freedom fighters' getting their own back on Whitey....

*the future for a Great Leader, a Messiah, will be to combine these dissenting groups into a bloc and thus create a force that will remove the current despotism...  Lips Sealed

she was taken to task over her deliberate timing to push her agenda on Anzac Day

she didn't like the criticism so played the victim/race card

she was only taken to task because she's muslim. Many people have used Anzac day to further their own agendas, absolutely NONE got the treatment she did for it.

All else follows from this.

Of course ..... a response not unexpected. Roll Eyes

To suggest illegal asylum seeking country shoppers on Nauru or Manus deserve the same recognition or consideration as our returned & fallen servicemen do on Anzac Day is a load of bollocks.

this comment by you is particularly offensive...  why do you have this NEED to denigrate.

IMHO???....
Her words were meant to bring minds BACK from the wonder and recognition of the greatness of the fallen, so long ago now .. to the reality of how, today, this Country uses their very sacrifice for freedom from fascism!!    Angry

So people standing up for ANZAC day is now Islamophobia?

Oh, this has been about standing up for Australia Day?

Can we have this man fired from his job and ejected from the country?

...

Or is it some how different?

White Christian man spouting anti-gay and anti-islamic messages on ANZAC day is fine then?

So the issue doesn't have anything to do with ANZAC day but just to do with the person making the tweet then?

I thought so.

Well, it's true, Australia has not fought for gay marriage and the Islamification of the West in any wars. Two mutually incompatible aims, anyway.

Are our taxes paying for his world tours to promote his new book?

You are correct. Voluntarily leaving the country is completely different from being ejected, not matter how hysterically you cry victimhood on the way out.
