I will ask a question that always reveals to true feelings of pro-gun advocates. It works every time.

"Japan has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the world and they have among the lowest homocide rate in the world (and no, more people aren't killed by samurai swords), why?"

Where does Japan rank on this list and why are so many countries with high gun ownership safer than Japan?

The question that really needs to be asked is why are there countries with great laxity in gun ownership safer that Australia?

Because that seem incongruous to every anti-gun hysteric's mantra, does it not?

Safest Countries

12. Australia - 1.425
11. Japan - 1.408
10. Ireland - 1.408
9. Switzerland - 1.373
8. Canada - 1.371
7. Slovenia - 1.364
6. Czech Republic - 1.360
5. Denmark - 1.337
4. Austria - 1.265
3. Portugal - 1.258
2. New Zealand - 1.241
1. Iceland - 1.111

More lax gun laws

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Switzerland

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Canada#Laws_and_regulations

Not one but at least three countries are safer than us and do not have the draconian bullsh1t gun laws we have.

Why is that?

BigOl, I've read the article. It equates each country with a peace score. How is this score calculated?

What I care about and what most people care about is the number of persons murdered in a country. Provide me with real statistics - i.e. homicide statistics, not some arbitrary peace score.

Homicide statistics is just cherry picking with gun crime, of course the gun grabbers like to cherry pick with homicides it means they can ignore all other gun crime.

Look at all the shootings in Sydney I guess the gun grabbers can ignore every shooting or robbery with a gun by just cherry picking firearm homicides.

Iceland ranks 15th in the world for gun ownership,Austria ranks 13th in the world for gun ownership,Slovenia allows open carry without a permit, Canada abolished long gun registration a few years ago it still ranks safer than Australia.

Why does New Zealand have a lower homicide rate compared to Australia when they allow all the semi auto rifles and shotguns we banned in 1996?

New Zealand is the easiest country in the world to buy a sound moderator (silencer for dim wits) no permit required just pay cash.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

Homicide statistics aren't cherry-picking; they're an actual reflection of people dying (usually by firearm).

Let's look at another facet of this debate. Japan, again, as an example. People in Japan feel safe enough that they don't want or need firearms to be safe. Now, if you argue that a society like the US (and Australia) needs firearm ownership in order to preserve individual safety because society is dangerous, then you have ask why is society dangerous in the first place?

In the case of NZ, their gun-ownership laws aren't the reason for less crime.

[The influence which ISLAM has upon a people in a nation, and whether a nation of people are respecters of LAWS or, a LAWLESS people.]

Confirming my argument, that neither very 'lax' guns laws, nor very restrictive guns laws,            are the determining factor of whether any particular country will have a small, or, a very high firearm crime rate.

The determining factor will always be, the character [i.e. the moral compass, or lack of] of the people, of any particular nation.

THE DETERMINING FACTORS IN 'GUN CONTROL', WITHIN ANY NATION,
SHOULD BE, IMO,      THAT;

The laws of a nation should ENCOURAGE firearm ownership [for the purpose of the protection of the individual and his/her loved ones, and the protection of his/her property] by any citizen of that nation who;
1/ is over 25 years old, and
2/ has not had a criminal conviction in the last 20 years, and
3/ has NEVER had any drink driving conviction, NOR any illicit drug convictions, ever [goes to an individuals respect for the concept of 'personal responsibility'].

AND,             keep firearms out of the hands of EVERY OTHER CITIZEN IN THAT NATION.
