Parents! you have got to be joking?

POLICE were called to an under-7s rugby league match today after a sideline dispute between parents turned ugly.

The unedifying incident, which involved chair throwing and shoving, led to the game being abandoned and pleas to “get the kids outta here” — happened at Renown Park, Oatley in Sydney’s southern suburbs about 10am.

The dispute was sparked after a contentious decision by a female referee during the under-7s match between the Kingsgrove Colts and Kogarah Cougars.

Coaches from the opposing teams started arguing shortly after the referee had awarded a penalty.

A trainer for the Kogarah Cougars then injected himself into the dispute, pushing his way towards a man in a grey shirt from the opposing team.
Witnesses said the trainer was being held back by other parents, calming down after about a minute.

Then the Cougars trainer “went nuts”.

“He just picked up one of those green plastic chairs and threw it in disgust,” a witness told The Sunday Telegraph.

“After that he started walking along the sideline before trying to pick a fight with someone else.”

During that second flare up, witnesses said he shoved one of the Renown United officials in the face with an open palm.

A man can be heard pleading with the attacker, saying “there are kids here, c’mon”.

“There are kids here, take them outta here,” the male said.
A woman can be seen trying to move kids away from the incident.

The Kogarah Cougars trainer then got in his car and sped off, although a number of people at the ground got the man’s licence plate number.

Club officials were all gagged from speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, however NSW Rugby League CEO David Trodden condemned the incident.

“Incidents like these need to be eradicated from our game,” Mr Trodden said.

“Junior sport is to be enjoyed by its young participants, not spoiled by inappropriate behaviour.

“If there is even just one incident of this type, then it is one too many.

“Our sport does not and will not tolerate it.”

Despite viewing the footage, Mr Trodden did not want to comment on the individual’s behaviour.

“We won’t be prejudicing either the police investigation or our own judicial process by speculating about the outcome of those processes,” he said.

“We have every confidence that the St George Junior League will handle the matter appropriately.”

Police arrived at the scene 20 minutes later, only to be told by club officials that the matter would be dealt with by the St George Junior Rugby League association.

No charges were laid over the incident.

Parents who were shown the video at the game by The Sunday Telegraph said that those involved should be banned for life.

The NSWRL spokeswoman said no children were harmed during the incident.

The spokeswoman said the NSWRL has been “very proactive in working to eliminate inappropriate behaviour on and off the field”.

“(NSWRL has) invested a great deal of time and resources into the game’s Respect program, which last year resulted in a significant reduction in charges for poor in-field behaviour,” the spokeswoman said.

The game was hosted by Renown United, which is the junior club of league legends Reg and Mark Gasnier.

Women should not be umpires? Grin

Don't be silly - as long as they can keep up with the play and know the rules... why not?  And that's referee...

I personally await the debut of a woman referee in a State of Origin match... doesn't matter if you're man or woman or big or small - the position of referee is earned and gets respect.

(my uncle was a First Grade referee with over 300 first grade games and 25+ Test matches to his credit.

Most sport today has no idea of respect.
respect for their opponents
Respect for their coaches
Respect for themselves or
Respect for anyone else.

Football in particular churns out some of the most narcissistic self opinionated and disrespectful animals on the planet.

martial arts however, especially a good school of good standing with a good teacher.
Teaches respect.
Respect for others
Respect for the Dojo
Respect for the sensei
Respect for the art and
Respect for themselves.

well its not all NRL..

Name: Dr. Stephen Cito
When: 1996
Sport: High School Football

When you're doing your best to win, sometimes it's in your best interest to pull out all the stops. Sane people call this "cheating." Complete assholes call it "gamesmanship." Jerry Rice used stickum, Ray Lewis used deer antler spray, and Dr. Stephen Cito (emphasis on "doctor") sharpened his son's chin-strap in an effort to literally slash the competition. After one two three four five kids left a single game due to lacerations (with one later going to the hospital for a dozen stitches), officials stopped the action to investigate, and found out the young Cito's helmet was "sharp enough to shred a magazine cover." For failing to stop his crazy dad, the younger Cito was expelled from his high school. For being a crazy dad, Cito was given a weekend in prison, a year on probation and 400 hours of community service. Afterward he was free to resume his life as a children's dentist.

for some its win at all costs
