127 in Death Valley
Jun 21st, 2017 at 3:02pm

...
Welcome to Hell - literally

In Death Valley in eastern California and in the town of Needles near the Arizona border, temperatures are expected to reach 127 degrees Fahrenheit (53 Celsius) this week, National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Fisher said on Monday.

Fisher said the sweltering weather could break records in some areas but was part of a cyclical pattern and not brought on by climate change or any other unusual phenomenon.

Of course, that is absolute bullshit.

Um, where's the "ice age" again?

We're doomed, people. The Mayans were right. We are in end times

You haven't been to Australia yet, have you Marla?

When you're in WA, visit a little town called Marble Bar.

Dope grows better in cold climates like yours. THC is a natural sunscreen which the plant secretes to keep the bud moist. High up places have strong UV light. Hence the plant secretes more THC. You should grow it instead of buying it.

The record for the longest heat wave in the world is generally accepted to have been set in Marble Bar in Australia, where from October 31, 1923 to April 7, 1924 the temperature broke the 37.8 °C (100.0 °F) benchmark, setting the heat wave record at 160 days.

There's also a public heroin injecting room right on the main street, if that takes your fancy.

Do it soon before the Australian dollar gets stronger. The Australian dollar is 73 US cents. Your bucks will go a long way.

Even for what passes as a dive bar in Australia by the Google images I've seen are way too clean. Even the floors look nice. In Denver dives, you dare not look down because you do not want to ever know what your shoes are sticking to.

Plenty of them. The Lansdowne, recently reopened was a classic sticky floor live music place.

Bars are generally quite fancy in Australia. In the country and some coastal towns you get rough pubs. The further isolated you get the rougher pubs get. I went to a pub in Claireview central Queensland where there were green tree frogs and geckos crawling all over the walls behind the bar. These Danish tourists walked in and I showed a Danish lady a frog I caught and she almost crapped herself. It's a big country.

They do. I like country pubs. I remember I walked into a pub out the back of Longreach and sitting at the bar were old 4 cowboys listening to country music from a 1960's transistor radio. I walked in with a black Sabbath t shirt on. They all looked around at once and then when back to drinking piss. I like those weird type pubs. But people are just people.

The Danes were a family. Mum, dad and 2 boys. They were heading north. They wanted a coffee and the lady at the bar made 2 cups for the parents. No fancy stuff. Supermarket cheap coffee and a bit of milk. I hope they weren't expecting anything fancy. Grin Grin You don't get fancy in the Australian bush.

Death Valley holds the official record with 56 Celsius. 70 degrees celsius would be breaking records in a very large region, and England would probably be having 40 degree days.

Never seen before amounts of sea ice off Newfoundland recorded by the Canadian Coast Guard trap fishing vessels and stop a global warming expedition of 40 scientists because of hazardous ice conditions.

And no Iran is not the record holder.

Cooling?

More swelteringly hot weather (well, for the UK it is:)

Quote:
The mercury hit 34 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, making it the UK’s hottest June day since 1976. Parts of the UK sweltered for a fifth consecutive day in temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius before a cool change on Friday, creating plenty of fodder for media in a nation obsessed with the topic of weather.

France too:
Quote:
Temperatures in France hit 38 degrees Celsius this week, sparking weather alerts across the country.

http://thenewdaily.com.au/news/good-news/2017/06/23/boys-wear-skirts-in-heatwave...

Another heat record in what is, according to lunatics, idiots, and liars, a Cooling World™.

And the US, too, is setting heat records:
Quote:
An all-time record in San Diego County

The temperature hit 124 degrees on Tuesday in Ocotillo Wells — the highest reading ever recorded in San Diego County, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said the reading was two degrees above the previous high of 122, which was recorded in Borrego Springs on June 20, 2016. That reading had tied the previous record high for the county, a figure also set in Borrego Springs.

“The desert has two seasons — hot and hotter,” said Mark Moede, a weather service forecaster. “But today, it was hottest.”

More:
Quote:
Misery in Palm Springs area

Palm Springs tied a record high of 122 degrees and Thermal broke the record for the day at 122 degrees.

Grape pickers in the Coachella Valley started before dawn, but by 9 a.m. the temperature had topped 100 degrees.

Hoax?

Any proof it is a hoax, ’Erbert? NASA/NOAA/MetOffice/BuMet/CSIRO etc etc are all lying are they? Or, much more likely from your posts, you don’t like thinking much so live by slogans instead in your lonely asbestos shack.

I will stick to science, thanks.

BTW: in Adelaide it is now too hot to grow the better type of bean in summer. But, hey, stick to not thinking if you like. Booby has decided to let someone else do his thinking for him. Weird but there you go!

Like that "science" you posted the other day about record Arctic ice loss not realising they were talking about 2012?

French beans.

Was a delicious purple–podded bean but it just got too hot to grow it.

I found this out the hard way and it was mentioned on various gardening shows 10–15 years ago. Even growing the bean between rows of sweet corn didn’t give them enough shade. Even tomatoes now need double birdnetting over them the heat is so harsh. I have three 2.5m star droppers and two more no longer needed in the front, I will put them all in one patch then put double birdnetting over them and plant tomatoes (paste tomatoes mainly, one or two slicing tomatoes) under the netting.

Hmmm better get seeds and start the seeds next weekend.

"Two types of fresh beans are grown, with production divided between the climbing or runner bean and the dwarf bean, which has a number of names, such as French, bush, snap or stringless beans."

"The main growing area for dwarf beans is Gingin and Broome, where beans are harvested by machine. Dwarf beans are also harvested by hand in Perth and the South-West. Production occurs throughout the year and demand is highest in the cooler months."

Must have been namby-pamby South Australian beans. Grin Grin Grin

Wasn’t dwarf beans. These were very fine beans indeed to eat.

Will have to search to find the name of that variety because I can grow them in Tassie! Yum, mouth waters just thinking about how they used to taste.
