10 easy ways to take action for West Papua
Jun 21st, 2017 at 11:26am

10 easy ways you can take action for West Papua

There are quick but important things we all can do to support the West Papuan freedom struggle.

★ Sign the global petition at bit.ly/swimforwestpapua

★ BackTheSwim! In August 2017, a team of young West Papua supporters will swim 69 kilometres across Lake Geneva, to hand in the global petition to the UN. Follow them on Twitter @BackTheSwim and at swimforwestpapua.com, and help share their story online.

★ Donate to the Free West Papua campaign at freewestpapua.org/actions/donate. Your contribution will help bring the voices of West Papuans to more people around the world.

★ On 3 May 2017, Indonesia is – outrageously – hosting World Press Freedom Day. Campaigners will be challenging this in various ways, so look out for news and articles to share online.

★ Contact your MP or government representative and ask them to support the West Papuan cause. Tell them to join the International Parliamentarians for West Papua via ipwp.org.

★ Break Indonesia’s media blackout. Follow the Free West Papua campaign on social media (facebook.com/freewestpapua and @FreeWestPapua) and at freewestpapua.org. Share their news, updates and films with your networks.

★ Contact office@freewestpapua.org for materials to share at your school, workplace, community group or place of worship. Organize a film screening or speaker event and gather signatures for the petition.

★ Find a West Papua solidarity group near you and support its activities. If you’re in the UK, Australia, Netherlands or Papua New Guinea then contact your local Free West Papua office via freewestpapua.org/contact or freewestpapuaperth.org. Otherwise, see freewestpapua.org/info/west-papua-campaign-groups for a list of groups in the US, New Zealand/Aotearoa, Fiji, Poland, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Spain and elsewhere.

★ If you’re part of a human rights, environmental or climate-change campaign, talk to them about linking your activities with the West Papuan freedom struggle. Contact office@freewestpapua.org for more ideas on how to do this.

★ If you’re a musician or artist and want to make art to support the struggle, contact Rize of the Morning Star: rizeofthemorningstar@gmail.com

Not a single one of these things will make a rat's arse piece of difference to the lives of the West Papuans, in fact most of what is listed laughable and pathetic.

What is required, as with Timor, is the Australian government to demand the filthy indonesians scum leave the country. And do so by force if necessary.

It is only because we are seen as weak and pathetic, that diplomacy will be seen by the indons as a continuation of that weakness.

It wasn't until indonesia was forced to leave and we invaded Timor that the lives of these people was improved, no-one wants to live under the rule of those viscous bastards.  Angry Angry Angry

What interest does Australia have in West Papua, other than perhaps by way of military strategic control?

About the same interest we had in East Timor, stopping the filthy indoneasians killing hundreds of thousands of women and children.

Self interest, which is why they are there stealing the wealth of the Papuans and the belief we are too gutless to do anything.

What they should do is fear being bombed into the fkking stone-age if they continue to be the murdering bastards of the South Pacific.

Mind you we did park our F111s within bombing distance of jakarta while our diggers were tromping around Timor for quit a few months so this scumbags understood their situation.

To answer your question succinctly, war usually works for countries unable to prevent serous carnage.

The only interest we have in East Timor is to screw them over on those gas resources.  If the Indos held Timor, we'd have no chance of stealing those resources.

You know as well as I do that Australia had a hand in West Papua being handed over to the Indonesians.

They have supported that decision across all subsequent govts. both Liberal & Labor ever since.

Australian companies have vested interests in exploiting the resources there along with multi nationals from the UK, Canada, the USA etc.

The largest gold & 3rd largest copper mine in the world & is owned by Yanks.

The situation is nowhere near the same as East Timor ...

albeit our govts. interests in pinching the rights to their gas & oil fields in the Greater Sunrise Gas fields.

People mean ferkall when it comes to money & resources.

I think the Australian government secretly wants to see the eradication of the West Papuan people. They rather see the Indonesians controlling the region, than to bother giving the West Papuans welfare the rest of their days.

Everything is exactly the same

We did have a helping hand selling out our neighbours to the vile scum indonesians

Both countries were rich in resources, now exploited by multi nationals

We cowardly stand by and thousands of women and children are murdered by the 'peace loving' indonesians.

However only once did we brush off out inate cowardice and stand up and demand the killing stop.

Makes ya proud to be called an Australians. doesn't it?  Angry Angry Angry

We have those gas resource, now and before. so that is a pant load.

You might look at the Timor Gap Treaty that signed by keating actually stole all the gas from Timor.

Utter rubbish. It's genocide. Over 500,000 West Papuans have been killed so far.

Do you deny this?

Theres no deliberate attempt to eradicate the west  Papuans, thats nonsense, the deaths have been as a result of the separatist war. There also a lot killings amongst the armed forces being sent there and transimmigrants from other parts of Indonesia,  The Indos are building massive infrastructure in the province and are basically overwhelming the Papuans by numbers, much the same as China is doing with Tibet.

Not frantically googling at all. Sharing a video i think you should see for your further education, as you are talking utter crap.

And you understand we're talking about West Papua, not Indonesia, right?

And whether i've been to Indonesia or not, or how many times i have been there,  has absolutely no bearing on what is going on in West Papua.

It's just you, flailing around again with no idea, trying to desperately pull rank. It's a deeply pathetic debating technique.

I think  your  right. Unless  they find either  oil or gas reserves there no one will ever be interested.

I can see value  in the original  post but tbh I'd  rather  see our government  do more for northern half this country  before  we do more o.s

A separatist war? ..... On & in their own country?

A country that never ever belonged to Indonesia ... a country itself only after the 1940's ... before that it was simply the Spice Islands & occupied by the Dutch & Portuguese.

A different race of people ... Melanesian ... not asian.

Who gives a flying fig about the infrastructure the Indos are building. They are grubs.

The West Papuans would be better off living the old tribal subsistence way & be primitive rather than have this genocide inflicted on them by greedy Javanese expansionists & western interests.

Having worked with a family member from a high-ranking Timorese family.
Australia only helped Timor because it took a vast majority profit cut and control in the Diamond Mining and other ventures there.

Either way, Timor was screwed over.

I think the Australian government secretly wants to see the eradication of the West Papuan people. They rather see the Indonesians controlling the region, than to bother giving the West Papuans welfare the rest of their days.
The Indonesians are overwhelming them rather than trying to eradicate them.  And West Papua is a welfare state to the rest of Indonesia, just as east Timor was.

Utter rubbish. It's genocide. Over 500,000 West Papuans have been killed so far.

Do you deny this?

10,000 per year for the last 50 years, perhaps? Not really likely. That's like 300+ per day. Even the most casual observer would have seen evidence of this happening in such large numbers. Australia has about 300 murders and manslaughters per year max, and people make a big deal about that. 300 per day getting murdered is something international attention would warrant.

The numbers are correct. Do some research.

Someone needs to do their homework.
You got that right. Im curious, when was the last time you were in Indonesia since you seem to know so much about it.
Ah, theres the answer. Never. Oh dear, Mothra babbling again about nothing she any actual knowledge of, frantically googling for blog sites which support her pre conceived ideas.  Nothing to see here folks, same old, same old.

When was the last time you were in West Papua, Rhino?

We're curious.

Ten thousand murders per year every year? Something like that happening in a country like Australia would have the international community conducting an investigation. I presume that this slaughter in West Papua has tacit international approval?

Which is what I am saying. The deaths of tens of thousands of West Papuans is not important. Unless West Papua has oil fields that rival Saudi Arabia, no one will notice.

Uncle Sam has sanctioned it. Of course, the Australian government does not oppose it either.

It has massive resources in copper & gold, and it is the indonesians doing the killing so that they can steal the wealth for themselves. It is their own little killing field paradise.

And that is the problem.

American company Freeport is making $1 billion a year from copper and gold. USA does not want this to stop.

Meantime, they are destroying and poisoning the environment as well as leaving piles of dead bodies.

Uncle Sam thanks you for your forbearance of his peccadillos.
