Can't drive stick

Idiot of the week, glad he's off the streets of my city.

Ashfield alleged carjacking foiled thanks to manual gears

A man who allegedly attempted a carjacking in Sydney's inner-west was thwarted when he realised he couldn't drive the vehicle because it was a manual.

A 47-year-old woman was in her car at traffic lights in Ashfield on Monday afternoon when the man allegedly opened the door, pulled on her arm and ordered her to get out.

As she got out, the man got into the driver's seat and attempted to drive off but was flummoxed by the manual gear stick and clutch, according to NSW Police.

The man allegedly grabbed the woman's purse from the vehicle and fled the scene at the intersection of Norton and Holden Streets.

The woman reported the matter to police at Ashfield Local Area Command.

Ashfield police were later contacted by police from the Sydney City Local Area Command, who had arrested a 41-year-old man for unrelated matters

Some people really need to start taking responsibility for their own safety.

First thing I do after getting into the car is lock the doors.

Been doing it for decades.

I also never drive with the windows open.

Remember the smiling, friendly, peaceful, land-loving Indigenous thing of walking across the pedestrian crossing at Redfun and then grabbing bags etc from stopped cars?

Twas quite common in the late 70s and early 80s.

Redfern was a hole and it was quite dangerous at night.
One would walk in front of the car, the other would either grab the bag or open the door and grab the bag.

But they got rid of them when they shipped them out for the Olympics.
It was the only good thing about the Olympics.
