It certainly annoys me ... a lot of thread titles are beyond ambiguous and opening one after another only to find some member is merely talking crap does little to inspire interaction with the forum.

In phpBB there is an extention called "Topic Preview" Quote:

Topic Preview displays a short excerpt of text from the first post in a tooltip while the mouse hovers over a topic’s title.

I've looked for it's like in YaBB, but the search function doesn't seem to work on their support forum.
That being said it must be available as can be seen from the screen shot bellow.

Installing the appropriate extension would be a very welcome move.
