The fight for independence begins
Jun 19th, 2017 at 2:05pm

We need to be represented by people who care about us, not what they take from us.

All of regional Queensland needs to be given a voice , but sadly ONLY North Queensland has the numbers to make it a possibility.

I will be paying my membership fees and if need be registering to vote once I move back to my beloved North Queensland.  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

RESIDENTS pushing for North Queensland to become a separate state say they are fed up with no water, high unemployment and a lack of political representation.

The NQ State group plans to recruit 500 members to enable them to be recognised as a political party.

They held their first public meeting on Saturday, where water security, high bankruptcy levels and unemployment were hot topics.

President Peter Raffles said there had been a long-held desire for North Queensland to become a separate state dating back to federation.

“The ultimate objective is to win the balance of power in parliament so that we get a referendum,” he said.

“That way we’re the ones making the decisions that affect us. It’s not OK that we have ended up with Level 3 water restrictions, it’s not OK that we have ended up with some of the worst unemployment figures in the country, the worst bankruptcy figures in the country and so we want to change that.”

The State Government has previously ruled out allowing North Queenslanders to have a referendum on secession.

Of the country’s 76 senators, only four are in Northern Australia and only two are north of Gladstone.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Well BigOl64,

I finally agree with you.

I'm all for Australia breaking up, or down, into many INDEPENDENT nations.

I think Far North QLD should be called simply YORK. South of York, could be Capricornia.

I personally think that the 'Federal' expression of Political Australia is really a representation of the Union Jack on the Flag.
Time for the States to take more Responsibility and time for PROVINCIAL Australia to just get on with it and run their own damn Independent show!

If the Kingdom or Empire of HUTT can do it!  Cheesy

No, you can't actually because the Commonwealth has so many of its fingers in the pie that they won't let little North Queensland dictate to them what to do. You kidding?

The only real solution is to restore Federalism and give more power to the States and local communities. Creating another State ain't gonna do anything.

Ah, again. Dodging the real issue: too much power to the Commonwealth.

Power to the Commonwealth is ok.
But Federal responsibility is to the International scene as a priority, not the Domestic needs of the country.

True - those little Hobbits down in the Shire under that grassy green hill known as Bag End, sure do get the best of everything in this country.

Jeez I didn't think I had to wrote a small book on what that meant.

Read it in the context of not being dictated to by the SE Queensland government from which we seek independence; not the fkken commonwealth government.
